So who would've thought that the middle of Baja California in Mexico, a delicious ramen spot would have existed. Umai brings a great diversity of asian cuisine to mexicali. Umai aims to be a Japanese and Mexican fusion, and successfully able to do so. The restaurant gets pretty busy, so plan accordingly but it's definitely worth it. We able the Tonkotsu Ramen, Dumplings, Shrimp Brochetas, Chicken Pad Thai, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Like I mentioned earlier, their aim is for Japanese food mixed w/ mexican influences. Therefore, the ramen was probably the highlight of our table. The dumplings and brochetas was good as well, but the fried rice & pad thai were just put together. They weren't bad, but it wasn't anything special. Definitely swing by and get some ramen; in addition, the sushi rolls looked good as well so maybe get some of those! @phidingthefam

Food is good, and priced reasonably, service was astounding and the mood was very family friendly. Large groups of people might find it a bit difficult to find a large enough area to sit, but you can always make a reservation for a special area designated for large groups, although I don't know if a fee is needed to be paid. Food wise, you will find a large variety sushi dishes, from fresh to vegan, spicy, noodle soup, other traditional Japanese dishes and dessert. Dishes were served quite rapidly. Price wise, it ranges from moderate to high but I did find the overall experience worth every penny. They have a wide variety of desserts too, and are delicious!

Excellent service, the moment you enter you can enjoy an urban-asian vibe of the place. Now talking about food: exceptional presentation, simple, pretty & colorful. We ordered the package of 3×99 baos (those you can choose 3 different from the menu), shoju ramen(?), kimchi fried rice & a sushi roll. Any complaints? I think is just a matter of preferences but I thought the lunch I fried rice tasted way more like ginger than kimchi, all other dishes were great.

Thus far i have tried their vegan ramen and their vegetable udon noodles. The vegan ramen is so flavorful a bit on the saltier side but manageable. The ramen noodles are not vegan friendly you gotta ask for the vegetarian ramen with the spinach noodles,if they run out of spinach noodles you can ask for the rice noodles the dish is still very flavorful. The vegetable udon noodles are on the spicier side they reminded me of pad Thai if you cant handle heat make sure to ask for mild. I would definitely keep coming back as their vegan friendly options are...
