After spending a bit of time in Mexico, my wife was craving Thai food. Being Thai, she needs her Thai food fix often. Who can blame her, the Thai cuisine is known worldwide for it's delicious food.
Outside of Thailand, it is very rare to stumble upon real and authentic Thai cuisine. After being recommended Dokbua by one of her Thai friend we had no choice but to go.
As soon as you enter the gates of the establishment, you are greeted by a very stylish decor. The menu has your typical Thai food selection, but what made this place more special is the food from different area of Thailand. You will be able to find on the menu Som Tum made with real pla ra, Khao Soi from Chiang Mai as well as Yellow Curry from the southern islands (Phuket/Koh Lipe). These dishes alone are mostly absent from any Thai restaurant outside of Thailand, which is a shame because these are to me the real unique tastes and flavors of Thailand. However this place has it all!
The drink selection is very nice, made with real fruits by an expert mixologist.
Our waiter, César, was a very attentive, personable and friendly person whom also spoke perfect English.
We also had the utmost pleasure of talking and spending time with the owner of the establishment, Phakkaporn, who is very hospitable, friendly and most of all a very talented cook. A real gem of a person.
I don't often go out of my way to make a review for places I go, even if I enjoy them, but this place is truly a unique and hidden gem and deserves all the praises it can get. I would highly recommend this places to anyone missing the flavors of Thailand or wanting to discover the freshness of truly authentic...
Read moreGood food with a couple of caveats. Do NOT order by numbers over the phone based on the menu. We ordered three dishes to go over the phone, saying the numbers and two out of the three dishes were a completely different dish. My husband ordered and he is Mexican, so it was not an error of my Spanish. Unfortunately, the entree I received was a spicy dish that I was unable to eat and the other error was also something else that I wasn't able to eat. Not very much fun to open up at the house. The flavors were good and if I liked spicy food, I would have enjoyed. Although the bean sprouts were not very fresh looking. Everything else was fresh. The portions are very small for Mexican standards. I was surprised by how small the portions were. I probably wouldn't do another to-go order based on the communication misses, but I would try eating in the restaurant. The patio in restaurant was very nice looking, well shaded in late afternoon and...
Read moreThe Pad Thai tasted like noodles and ketchup with bits of chicken. The wait staff could not answer questions like. "How spicey is this dish?". The spring roles were tiny and tasteless. The music was very loud and the hostess looked confused when we commented that the music was blaring and we where the only people in the place at 7PM on a Saturday night. The lack of patrons should have been the clue at 7PM on a Saturday. My wife's rice dish was also flavorless. The place itself is very nice and looks great, but even Buddha (the huge statue they have) would need to pass on this place. Nobody is here and there is a reason for this. This is not good Thai food here in Cancun. It might be great in the other locations, but it is lacking here in Cancun. This place will not last if this persists. The prices dictate quality and it isn't here. I was hoping for a good Thai experience and did...
