The food was OK, but the service was really bad. The only night I went there, it was crowded but not full-house. There were multiple waiters, and the place was certainly not under-staffed, but I had to get their attention to have my order taken after waiting for a long time. It also took a really long time to get my food. Then, the same waiting routine for the bill... I started thinking "maybe I should just start walking out to get them run behind me" but then decided to show some decency by signaling that I was going to the cashier to pay for the check. Surprise! They only accept "effectivo" (cash), and that my credit card is "no good" for the payment. This is supposedly a big restaurant that is part of a big touristic resort hotel; it is not like I had gone to a street seller. The fact that hardly any staff spoke English is one thing, but no credit-card service is beyond inconvenient. If you want to run a big tourism-related business in this century, these are the two basic requirements one should be prepared for. It is like being a surgeon but not knowing the names of the body parts and not having a scalpel. And what a drama! Suddenly, the very-much-looked-for staff all gathered, trying to figure out how to get the mere ~100 pesos (for a lousy soup and orange juice). The price is certainly as pretentious as this big resort hotel. They asked me if I had a bank account at BBVA (a Mexican bank). Yeah, every tourist who comes to Mexico opens a bank account here and wanders around with hundreds of pesos cash. I told them I could get their "effectivo" from my hotel, and they finally let me go with one of their staff escorting me to my room. I only gave him the cost but not the "propina" (tip). They have the indecency to add 10% propina to your bill automatically. Obviously, I will not go...
Read moreFrom the minute we sat down we got a CBA attitude from the waiter. We ordered a pizza and a pasta dish - both were pretty terrible. The pasta had far too much basil, lacked salt and had an odd sour flavour, on top of that it was just so cloying to eat. The pizza turned up with next to no tomato base, fake ham and a terrible chemical approximation of chorizo on it. The live band that they had on just before we left ruined what ambience the place had by playing far too loudly and out of tune. Then came the bill with an extra charge added to it - we didn't know the Spanish word so we queried it with the waiter who told us it was tax. Noone likes tax but we accepted it until we checked the translation and it turned out to be a tip - so not only did we get poor service, the waiter blatantly lied to our faces about what it was and we were expected to pay extra! He came back with our change and again told us it was tax until I told him it wasn't, it was a tip at which point he gradually admitted that it was. I asked for the rest of the change and after a frustrated exchange he slunk off. After 15 minutes we had to send another waiter to find him, 5 minutes later we finally get our...
Read moreThis place is a total tourist trap. If you're a backpacker traveller then I would avoid this place unless you really want to see the live music and fire show (we only stayed for 3 songs once band started, they were fine/average, just doing covers)
The service was friendly but incredibly slow, we chose to sit near the water which was at the edge of the 100 or so tables so they forgot about us a lot and it was hard to get their attention.
The food is terrible. I don't know why they don't just do simple good mexican food. Instead they do steaks, pasta, pizza and kind of mexican fajitas. We had the "tagliatelle Don mucho" as they make their pasta fresh on site, however the meat sauce just tasted like salty Dolmio jar and the pasta, while fresh, was totally overcooked and soggy. We also got "tampequeña de res" as it came with guacamole and friojles and seemed a little more mexican. The beef had okay flavour but was incredibly tough so the meal was only fine.
It wasn't too expensive for what it was but the next night we got a taxi into centro and had went to a nice authentic casual taco place and a great little bar and it was the same price including the...
