This is the truth, we walked around for over an hour and a half trying to figure out where we were going to eat looking at the Google reviews and going from place to place. We were exasperated and finally decided on Lupe's. I bet the hostess saw us pass her a dozen times that evening. No expectations but oh my God were we completely impressed. The food and the staff!

We sat towards the front but it was cool and they came up and suggested we went to the back. Yes the back was closer to the toilets but it was actually fine and I appreciated their concern. Our waiter spoke a little bit of English which helped. We started off with a Kahlua and cream which I think they call a White Russian and a pina colada made with tequila. Great drinks plenty of alcohol.

They had run out of the El pastor so we couldn't get the tacos. So we ended up getting the pork dish which was one of their specialties that came with a darker sauce and it was fantastic. It tasted like a mole. The dish was absolutely wonderful and the pork, all but one piece, melted in your mouth. The taste was delicious. The other dish we got which was the most amazing dish was the chili rellenos and they were made like nothing you can get in the United States. Beautiful large plump succulent green poblano Chili's filled with ground beef and other ingredients including one of the most interesting, raisins. We thought it was funny because my mom loves to put raisins and everything. This really did make the dish though. It was filled and stuffed and gently battered and fried and it came with a sauce and it was a dream. I always look for good chili rellenos made like this but it's almost impossible to find just like good Maryland crab cakes. When you find them, make sure you order them and I have no problem recommending these hands down as they must have dish when eating here. You can have it as an appetizer and share it or a main dish. Now I can't guarantee it will always come out as amazing as tonight but given how everything else was and the care and attention of the waiters, I can't imagine it not coming out amazing. One thing I did notice was how clean the refrigerators were and the attention to detail and putting away products into the refrigerator. The place looked immaculate.

Now this is not specific to this restaurant but I should be saying it in all my reviews, a little more hand washing couldn't hurt. But I've noticed from coffee houses to the most expensive restaurants, hand washing is a little lacking. Some Americans just love to see more hand washing. Other than that, just wonderful. A great value. It is on the main strip so it is going to be a tad more expensive than places not on the main strip but it still was very reasonable. If I had a chance to come back and try more of the amazing dishes I saw in the menu, I would be back in a heartbeat.

The wait staff was friendly and efficient and made our evening special.

It's easy to find on one of the walking streets. Look for the beautiful woman in the traditional outfit as a hostess and that's the place! And the icing on the cake was the hostess remembered us the next day walking by. We felt like family.

One last thing. Bring a fat ass or a cushion. Maybe it was just my skinny but, but I couldn't get comfortable...

I went there for lunch. I wasn’t that hungry. I had a Mexican soup. There was so chicken at the bottom and comes with fried tortillas and avocado for 95 pesos and it wasn’t that big. I have to ask to ask for tortillas. There were always 2 well dressed women at the front door to woo customers. I wanted tortillas but I couldn’t find anyone around me while 2 waitress or hostesses standing in the front door. I guess instead of serving the customers, they were told to stand at the front door. I am not impressed with the no service. This morning I went to a cafe. The ambience was great. The service was outstanding. I was attended by 2 waitresses who smiles often. I like that more than what I had this afternoon.

The soup was average and I had better soup elsewhere in SC but in general the soup in Mexico tasted the same anywhere I go.

95 pesos is a bit steep for what it provided. I like to not slam any businesses but clearly there is nothing to raved about this restaurant. The 2 stars are for good location and that is the only virtue that I can think of.

I have never seen so many cafés and restaurants in such a small area. There are competitions. It really needs to take a hard look and evaluate the level of service that others are providing. Having 2 beautiful hostesses at the front door clearly is not the trump card in any business model...

I just ate the finest Mexican food I have eaten since I moved here six years ago. It was sublime! I ordered frijoles de charros al Pastor.

Most people are familiar with al Pastor. The method of preparing and cooking (layered pork) is based on the lamb shawarma brought by Lebanese immigrants to the Mexican origin of al Pastor, the Puebla region. Today al Pastor can be found nationwide.

This soup was extremely flavorful (I must admit, I LOVE charros beans). Mixed with chopped vegetables, a savory beef broth, and the obligatory mix-ins (cilentro, chive onions, serrano peppers, radishes), the beans and the Pastor just make this one of the most amazing things I have ever eaten. Sadly I leave tomorrow to go back to my home on the Costa de Oaxaca, but I will back San Cris. Te amo San Cristobal!! Kudos to Restaurant La Lupe, tu comida es...

Wow! Truly good. Flavors combine to produce amazing dishes that OMG need for you to come everyday! Personnel is awesome and facilities are good! We had the Quesadillota Muerta de hambre that was GREAT, it combined areachera, chicken, cheese, chorizo and Mushrooms… sooooo amazing! The flavorful Mazapan rita (the prehispanic rita!) was soooo good too! The salsa bar amazing and the other stuff I saw at other tables was impressive. Overall a great place for locals and tourists alike!
