If there’s one dish that will haunt your taste buds long after you’ve left, it’s the King Crab at Gusto’s Restaurant in Cozumel, Mexico. My introduction to this unforgettable meal was thanks to a chance encounter with a gentleman named Terry Curry after an open play pickleball session at PikaPok Paradise Pickleball Facility. He shared stories of crabs and other amazing sea life he had seen diving off the coast of Cozumel and I knew that I had to try the local seafood fare. Little did I know, Terry would lead me to the most incredible crab I’ve ever tasted.
Before the spectacular arrival of the King Crab, I had the pleasure of starting my meal with a lobster bisque—rich, velvety, and full of depth. It was the perfect soup to wet my appetite and set the stage for the dish I traveled the island to try.
I’ve had my fair share of crab across the globe, but nothing compares to this masterpiece. The crab was an absolute revelation—succulent, meaty, and cooked to sheer perfection. Each bite was an ethereal experience, with the tender, flaky flesh practically melting in your mouth. You can taste the love from the chef in the preparation of this dish, as the crab was unadulterated by over seasoning or thick, heavy, sauce.
The natural sweetness of the crab was so exquisite that the thought of dipping it into butter never even crossed my mind—though the butter, rich and delicious with the nostalgic taste of movie theater popcorn flavor, would undoubtedly be a luxury if you chose to indulge. But honestly, it wasn’t needed. The crab alone was so flawless, it stood as the star of the show.
Every waking moment since my meal has been consumed by thoughts of those delicate, decadent morsels. I am utterly infatuated, and I hate that I have to travel a whopping 1768 miles (2845 kilometers) to relive the magic of this King Crab at Gusto’s again. If you’re ever in Cozumel, do yourself a favor—this dish is a must-try, and it might just ruin all future crab experiences for you....
Read moreI rarely feel compelled to write a poor review. Maybe the restaurant had an off day…we all have those. Maybe I just like to focus on the positive…and of course each to their own; different tastes for different palates. Bare this in mind as you may find your experience different. However, in this case, “Overpriced Indifference” describes our night and I suspect that others may have had similar experiences.
With so many fresh, local ingredients to choose from, I was stunned to find such poorly prepared and over priced food being presented in such an amateurish and uncaring fashion! Lobster bisque was gummy and floury, shrimp fajitas were mostly a pile of heavily salted green peppers and onions, tortillas were (seemingly) out of a Mega package, and the pizza (hey, who knows, maybe??) was dry and crumbly and totally lacking flavour.
The service was unwelcoming, lacking knowledge of the food or even showing a shred of care about customer experience and in spite of our cheerful attempts to engage in both Spanish and English, the waiter was completely indifferent and dismissive.
Chef, you have a great location and a nice building but I would invite you to rethink your approach to food and your customers. Until then, with so many other restaurant choices available on the island: restaurants where the people are thrilled to share their culture, language and flavours with you, I would save my money and...

We went here off a google maps search and after eating here, we did more research and clearly the review posted are from made up accounts...
The “seafood platter” is probably microwaved. If you do decide to eat hear sit close enough to the kitchen and you will hear the beep beep beep of the microwave every few minutes. We paid 75 usd for a seafood platter, 4 beers and a bottle of water. Food on Cozumel can be really excellent, but this is not such!
If you want good affordable food read though my other Cozumel reviews and visit other places.
You will see I travel all around the world and I am bluntly honest with every place I go.
Cozumel has amazing food but this is not one. Steer clear no matter who “recommends” it to you on a boat trip, fishing trip, or town tour, clearly people are getting kick backs on recommending this place.
