Basto's Grill — Restaurant in Isla Mujeres

Small family owned hole in the wall grill in a REAL Isla Mujeres neighborhood. This place is not fancy, but it is authentic and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Very hospitable about every part of the meal. Included with the meal was 4 different salsas along with freshly fried tortilla chips. The house beef tacos on the corn tortillas are probably the best tacos I have ever eaten. I am a huge fan of proper tacos too. The steak was melt in your mouth tender, and was seasoned perfectly. The tortillas were hand made and freshly cooked. Hands down the best tortillas I have ever eaten in my life. Charred onions and fresh guacamole to accompany the tacos, as well as a beautiful presentation. The most surprising part of my visit was the cost of the dish, around $5 American. I was very full. One of the best dining experiences I've had. Thank you bastos grill. Please keep doing exactly what you're doing with your establishment....

By far my favorite restaurant on the island !! Wonderful family and food. I mean my favorite in the world actually - everything is prepared with such care and attention to detail and delicious !!!!!!!!!!!! If this restaurant were in a major city , it could win International acclaim. Service is wonderful and the small size is cozy and inviting. I want to come back to Isla Mujeres just to eat here ! I’m so lucky our Airbnb was close by. We stayed 10 days and tried a lot of places - but had to eat here 3 times and would have more for sure, if we stayed longer. Lobster tail dinner with garlic sauce for 400 pesos !!- all prices reasonable and you feel very taken care of by all the friendly staff - most of whom are family members. Wow !!! Definitely a highlight...

I really wanted to like this place but we ordered a burger with only cheese (hamburguesa con solo queso, sin ensalada, solo queso is what I said) and they put mayo all over it. My stepson wouldn't eat it and I don't blame him, I wouldn't either as we both can't eat mayonnaise. The server refused to correct it, and just kept saying sorry. While I was waiting for the check (mind you, it took over 1 hour for our food), I overhead the table behind us receive the wrong item as well, but he brought their food back to make it right, which was just further insult. My stepson left the burger untouched, ate the little bit of fries that came with it, we paid the full bill and left. Hopefully they gave it to a street dog....
