Oriental City Mérida — Restaurant in Mérida

We have been in the mood for Chinese since we moved to Merida last year. We came across Oriental City in our outings and decided to give it a try for dinner. It turns out we should have looked elsewhere. It was absolutely horrible. We had six people in our party, and two of them got served their meals. FIFTEEN minutes later the rest of the food came out, and all of it was cold as if it had been just sitting on a counter in the back. The sesame chicken was basically inedible, tasting like it had been drenched in pure cane sugar syrup. It was sickeningly sweet. The spicy shrimp was nearly impossible to eat being served with shell and legs still in tact, and on top of that were not cleaned properly which for me made them inedible as well. The pasta was sweet. The rice was sweet. It was like a giant sugar bomb entree. It was awful. On top of that the service was terrible with us having to practically wave our arms in the air to get anyone's attention. And at times that didn't even work as we practically started feeling ignored on purpose. Then after our plates were cleared, someone came around and started wiping the table down AROUND our arms and hands. Can you at least wait until we leave? It wasn't late at all and we were just sitting having casual conversation but felt shooed away because of that. Well we finally made it to the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The place is beautiful inside . The staff is awesome and very professional. We had the pleasure of having Jorge as our waiter. He was on the money . And to our surprise his English was so helpful to the whole process. The menu is jam packed with the best choices to please your palate. The Myer's had the shrimp tempura as an app. It was beautifully presented we had the egg rolls. Done to perfection . Pamela and I had the sushi rolls. A great choice for our cravings. Best Chinese Food I’ve had in Merida. The service was excellent. Plentiful portions. Good drinks. Overall, great dining experience. Will definitely return very soon.

Edited to add: Dine in only. I was very disappointed with takeout. The portions were considerably smaller. They also mixed beef and broccoli in the same container with sweet & sour shrimp. NOOOO! Those flavors do not go together. The rice and noodles came together in a very small container. Yes, the food was still delicious, but for the money, the takeout portions should be as plentiful as the in restaurant ones. Definitely do not order takeout unless they fix this. I wish I had...
