Authentic Indian Food in the Heart of Mexico City – A Must-Visit!
If you’re in Mexico City and craving authentic Indian cuisine, Dawat is the place to go! As vegetarians, we were a bit unsure about food options here—most local restaurants featured beef, pork, or soy-based dishes, and language barriers made things even trickier. After a few disappointing experiences, we decided to stick with Indian food—and we’re so glad we found Dawat!
Dawat offers a full menu of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian dishes, so there’s something for everyone. We focused on the vegetarian side and were thrilled with the variety—dosa, idli, chutney, vada, sambar, kulcha, naan, palak paneer, and even full thalis!
What truly set our experience apart was the amazing chef, Mr. Fahim. Not only is he incredibly skilled, but he was also warm, humble, and passionate about what he does. He personally ensured we had everything we wanted—even preparing a custom South Indian thali, which wasn’t even on the menu. That kind of care and flexibility is so rare!
His cooking was authentic, delicious, and comforting—it felt like eating homemade meals prepared with love. The flavors were spot on, and the dishes were better than some we’ve had even in Houston! We genuinely felt like we were being served traditional food straight from a mother’s kitchen.
Fahim speaks Kannada, Hindi, and English, which made communication easy and made us feel even more at home. We tried nearly every vegetarian item on the menu, and each one was amazing. The non-veg options also looked great—we could see other guests thoroughly enjoying them.
Dawat is more than just a restaurant—it’s a heartwarming experience. Whether you’re vegetarian or non-vegetarian, this place delivers top-notch Indian food with true hospitality.
Highly recommended—don’t miss it if you’re in Mexico City!

Read moreThis was our first visit to Mexico and we wanted to have a taste of Indian food here. We went there in the evening along with my wife. Quite a few guests there already. Since we are vegetarians we sought Chef Bahar's help in deciding on simple veg items - Methi Parantha and Mixed Veg Curry along with Dal Shorba soup. We were pleasantly surprised both at the quality of food as well as the quantity. Very rich, tasty and very filling. Chef Bahaar himself came and enquired about the quality of the food and was very helpful. We would strongly recommend this Indian restaurant for those staying in central district around WTC. He apparently does free delivery to a number of hotels in...
