I recently ordered here for dinner through delivery. I was quite excited as I’m a sushi and Japanese food lover in general, and I was excited to see another Japanese place nearby my home. Also, I was excited to see ramen on the menu. I am a ramen lover, having eaten it at probably 500+ places in multiple countries around the world.
I understand that the quality is going to vary in every country and city, and honestly know that it’s not going to be the same here as I’ve had in Japan (or even other major cities in other countries that have more ramen places). So, my expectations weren’t high.
But I really must say that the ramen I got was pretty inedible, and the first time in my life I could not eat it. I seriously dream about ramen, and after this I hesitate to think about ordering it again. The chashu was gristly fat that I could not chew. Generally, it’s cooked slowly so it kind of melts in your mouth. If not cooking it slow, the fat at least needs to rendered somehow … chewing gristly pork fat is not appetizing in any way. And it was very little meat, just gristly tough fat. That was the first impression, so I tossed it aside and grabbed some of the noodles. Just mush, like super overcooked mushy. Having lived in Mexico, I know that it’s a bit more normal here to cook noodles longer and that al dente isn’t the norm. I’ve accepted it and gotten somewhat used to it. But these were just completely mushy and inedible. I did end up drinking the broth but that was the only thing I felt like I could stomach unfortunately.
I also ordered yakimeshi (fried rice) and it unfortunately was also mushy and really over cooked. I’ll give them another go at some point and certainly try the sushi, but I would be a bit scared to order the ramen or yakimeshi again. It probably wouldn’t have bothered me as much, but it was a pretty pricey bowl of ramen and fried rice for it to be inedible. With higher prices, I guess I expect it to be a higher quality, but in this case since there aren’t other ramen choices around, I would have just been happy with edible. But honestly the first time I couldn’t stomach a...
Read moreThe service was incredible. They were on top of making sure our needs were taken care of and clearing dishes as needed. The food was delicious! We ordered the deep fried shrimp and the gyoza for appetizers then we had the octopus, the pork belly, a banana sushi roll, a daikon roll, and a scallop roll. We also ordered a dolce de leche volcano dessert and a mousse. The Gyoza was amazing! The pork was delicious, full of flavor and accompanied by delicious sweet potatoes and a sweet sauce. The octopus took a little bit to get to us but it was also very flavorful and yummy. The banana roll was so unique and I loved it. The daikon roll was a solid sushi roll, however the scallop roll was not my favorite. It had a slight spicy flavor and one hint of lime but beyond that the flavor wasn’t strong enough. Our dessert volcano was fantastic, so moist! The mousse was also tasty, almost like a key lime pie. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend...
