Jabalina — Restaurant in Nuevo León

Great ambiance, tasty drinks and excellent service by our waiter Cristian and also Santiago "el pirata". A margarita was my go to for the night. It was an excellent choice and did not disappoint. It tasted like it had all natural ingredients, refreshing and with great tequila. For starters their Coliflor Frita and the Tiradito de Portobello were great to share for 2. Our main entrees were savory, a ribeye steak (large portion) and a pork dish in which it was probably cooked for hours as the meat was soo tender. We visited from Dallas, TX and we were looking for a great breakfast place. A family friend recommended Jabalina to us. From the minute we drove up the front door valet was quick and efficient. The manager greeted us and was friendly and hospitable. He had the hostess seat us and then came to our table and treated our entire party of 6 to free mimosas (we don’t drink alcohol so we asked him to change it to plain oj) We ordered the Barbacoa and it was delish!! Fuimos a Jabalina, en el Barrio Antiguo de Monterrey, y salimos con sentimientos encontrados. El ambiente del lugar está espectacular: terraza cómoda, música agradable, aire fresco gracias a los aerocoolers y un aroma natural que hace que te la pases súper a gusto. En cuestión de vibes y espacio, fácil le damos 9 de 10.

La comida y las bebidas, sin embargo, no estuvieron a la altura. Pedimos un ribeye y un ceviche de pescado que en el menú sonaban prometedores, pero al probarlos estaban bastante “equis”. Lo mismo con los tragos: un Aperol Spritz sin gas y aguado, una mezcalita sin gracia, un espresso martini muy dulce y diluido, y una piña colada con poco sabor. Lo único que nos refrescó de verdad fue la cerveza bien fría.

El momento incómodo llegó con el postre. Desde que llegamos nos preguntaron si teníamos alguna alergia y aclaramos que a la fresa y la nuez. Pedimos un mostachón de higo y preguntamos de nuevo por seguridad, a lo que nos aseguraron que no llevaba. Cuando llegó, el pan venía lleno de nuez, así que no pudimos comerlo. Nos lo cambiaron por un cheesecake de biscoff que, aunque tenía buen sabor, estaba completamente congelado. No cuidan los detalles.

Eso sí, hay que reconocer que el personal es súper amable, siempre atentos, de buen humor y con ganas de que la pases bien. Ojalá pronto ajusten el nivel de cocina y barra, porque el lugar tiene muchísimo potencial.

Calificación general: 6 de 10. Ambiente increíble, pero hay mucho margen para mejorar...
