First time here. Ambiance and restaurant is beautiful. We at outside in the terrace and they had plenty of mister fans so it was comfortable. They have a creative cocktail menu which we tried a few and they were good, I would try the Habanero Jamaica again. There was several items from the menu they did not have but will look workfare to trying on our next visit. For starters we had the spring rolls which were a delicious take on spring rolls with tasty greens and a playful tamarindo sauce. Also had the fresh sliced raw shrimp, octopus and Tuna plate. This was perfect and wonderful mix between the three seafood pics and the portion was bountiful. For main entrees we had the Pad Thai which was a good portion and a slightly sweet version but very well done. We have both salmon curry options and they did not disappoint. One had a grilled salmon on a plan with side of curry. This was perfectly cooked, had a wonderful crust and the curry complimented. The other curry dish had the salmon in the curry with veggies, spot on. Could eat these often. Deserts we had a sherbet option which was very good and their signature desert which has coconut ice cream inside but is covered with an incredible thinly sliced crunchy deliciousness. I will not ruin it for you as you have to try yourself. Can’t believe I had never had something like this and can see lots of possibilities for the use of this special, basic ingredient prepared in such a simple but unique way that it blew all our minds. Service was subpar unfortunately. The waiter was not very attentive, drink orders took a long time and had to remind the waiter. He was not bad just could use a lot of improvement with serving and being attentive. Overall we absolutely recommend Mar del Zur and would look forward...
Read moreMonterrey sorely lacks a good Thai restaurant and after reading the reviews we thought we would at least try Mar del Zur. The restaurant decor is high end although we found the overall atmosphere to be a bit noisy. This could be overlooked if the food was good, but unfortunately the traditional Thai dishes that we tried, Tom Yung, Pad Thai, and Red Curry were all average to below average. The Tom Yung had large shrimp but a complete lack of vegetables, apart from a few mushrooms, no lemon grass, etc. It is one of the worst I have ever tasted. The Pad Thai was soupy and had way too much tamarind flavor. The Red Curry was ok but the jazmine rice was the most poorly prepared ever. It was as if they insisted it had the constituency of Mexican rice. Maybe we should have tried some of their mexthai fusion dishes but given the taste of the dishes we did try, I suspect they would not have been much better. On a positive note, we went on Valentine's day and they gifted desserts which were quite a bit better than the food, although not Thai in any way. If you are looking for Thai food,...
