Don Porfirio Lobster & Steak House — Restaurant in Oaxaca

Absolutely awful experience!! Me and my girlfriend still have stomach pain a day later.

I explained that I'm totally vegetarian and my girlfriend is pescatarian. He then suggested tmalyan which he said is vegetarian.

They brought out free chips and dip. One bean and 2 spice.

We ate a good amount of the bean dip and realized there was chorizo ground up in it.

I asked is there meat in it. 2 employees said no. The third guy admitted there was.

We were both quite upset as we haven't eaten meat in decades.

My meal came out and it was missing multiple items including beans. I inquired and they said only beans with meat.

I explained that this is not enough food as it was a sad tiny portion and expensive

He offered to add some fried veggies. I said ok , 20 minutes later he came out with the plate with veggies added and a pile of meat beans too !! The other servers all shook there heads in disbelief. He then offered to scrape the beans off but the juices were everywhere. I left hungry and angry.

This place is overly expensive. You have to order their signature grilled or flambe'd dish in order to make it worth every penny. I ordered grilled jumbo prawns and received a generous amount of prawns(not complaining but it is a bit much to eat for myself) but it came with a very tiny portion of rice and overcooked vegetables (3 to 4pc). The location is great and the only decent place to eat for dinner. I was going to order a steak and lobster combo, but photos posted by reviewers do not look appealing to me . You need to work on your portions, proper costing, and photos on your menu . Other than that, service was great during our visit. I uploaded the recent menu for you to check as the old menu posted was outdated with old prices, so we were shocked to see the prices went up...

We stayed at the Barcelo resort and the Don Porfirio restaurant is across the street.

Normally when we go to an all inclusive resort I don’t like to go out for meals but we had heard such good things about this restaurant that we just had to try it.

I ordered a 400 gram rib eye steak with fries and my wife had a meal size Caesar salad. We each had a drink and the bill came to $71US before the tip. We thought this was pretty good value.

The atmosphere was wonderful and it was cool watching the BBQ master cook my steak on a grill that is almost on the sidewalk.

Good food, good service and good times!!

We will definitely go here again the next time we stay at the Barcelo resort.
