One of Puerto Escondido’s best kept secrets? We drove by La Batata one evening and it looked cute so we looked it up and were intrigued by the positive reviews so we thought we would give it a try. It exceeded our expectations. I wrote in advance to let the restaurant know about our dietary restrictions—three of us are vegetarian and my daughter has a serious nut allergy—and while the menu already has a large variety of vegetarian options, the owner went above and beyond to accommodate us. We have been in Mexico for a month and have not received service like this. Such care was taken with the food and the service. The fresh bread - right out of the oven as we arrived was stellar. We selected the Milanese sandwich since the bread got our mouths watering. I’m glad I came for the food, but I didn’t plan to grow old here. Solid flavors, sloppy service. Come with low expectations for speed and a fully charged phone—you’re...
