I recently had the pleasure of visiting a vegan restaurant in Mexico, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. As someone who doesn't usually frequent vegan establishments, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience at this particular spot. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this restaurant had something unique to offer. I came in for breakfast and after a delightful first experience, I couldn't resist returning to this vegan restaurant for an exceptional lunch a couple days after. Once again, the place didn't disappoint, offering an array of innovative and unique vegan dishes.
Let's start with the food. The time I went for breakfast, I opted for the waffle french toast, and it turned out to be a delightful choice. The texture was just right, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. What I appreciated most about it was that it wasn't overly sweet, which allowed the natural ingredients to shine through. It's great to find a vegan dish that can cater to a variety of palates without overwhelming the taste buds.
For lunch, I had Not Fried Chicken which consisted of fried mushrooms, cornbread, some greens, and whipped potatoes. The presentation was impeccable, and each element of the dish complemented one another perfectly. I knew I was going to love this dish since I love mushrooms, but what through me out of the park were the whipped potatoes. They were absolutely delicious and I inhaled it! It was extremely creamy and delicious. I also had a little bit of the gumbo, but was too full to truly enjoy it. They also make their own hot sauce in house with chile de arbol and chile guajillo and it tastes amazing! I loved the nopal in the gumbo. I ended up taking it home and had it for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. They have the cutest little to go containers!
To accompany my meals, I decided to try their Strawberry Hibiscus Soda, Raspberry Limeade, and Passion Fruit Iced Tea. All three beverages were an absolute treat in the times I went. The drinks were expertly crafted, with a careful balance of flavors. Just like the waffle french toast, they weren't overly sweet, making them incredibly refreshing and satisfying on the hot days in Oaxaca.
I also got a Jasmine tea shortbread cookie the time I got lunch and like everything else, it was a perfect balance of sweetness!
The standout feature of this restaurant, however, was the exceptional service. The owners themselves took an active role in running the establishment, from bussing tables to cooking the food. Their passion for what they do was evident in every interaction. They were warm, welcoming, and more than happy to answer any questions I had about the menu. This personal touch created a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel like a valued guest.
In summary, my visits to this vegan restaurant was an exception to my usual dining preferences. I highly recommend giving this vegan restaurant a try, even if you're not typically a vegan food enthusiast. You might just discover, as I did, that it's worth venturing outside your comfort zone to explore the unique culinary offerings they...
Read moreOK WOW.....I went to Nanita in the beginning of November 2023 and I am in complete awe of this restaurant. The location, the decor, the atmosphere, the delicious beverages, baked goods, the services but specifically THE FOOD. You can feel the love, tenderness and care that was invested in building this restaurant.
It's so rare to find not only vegan food but food in general where folx are making everything from scratch. You can taste the quality in every bite! As a meat eater who adores vegan food, I often eat at vegan establishments leaving like "something' is missing (obviously the meat), but not at NANITA. As you savor every bite, you forget that meat or dairy even exists because the flavor profile, the textures, the aromas keeps you in the present that you are literally thinking of nothing else but what is right in front of you. I ate at Nanita about 4 times on my trip because I was determined to eat through their menu and I was not disappointed even once.
I know this sounds exaggerated and over the top but as a food lover and someone who values attentiveness, care and healing through food, I feel very passionately that Nanita really captures and brings you back to why we are so connected to food and how beautifully food brings us together. Can't wait...
Read moreWhen Southern cuisine meets Oaxacan cuisine, you get THE BEST of both worlds. I spent a month in Oaxaca and I visited Nanita at least 2-3 times a week. I went for the food, desserts, coffee, and just to say hi; my days were not complete without a trip to Nanita.
The food here is a 10 out of 10, chefs kiss! The quality of the food here is what kept me returning. Or maybe it was the flavor? Honestly, everything on the menu will leave you satisfied and wanting more. You can tell the food is made with love and experience.
The ambiance is also stellar! Its colorful touch, vibing playlist and lively plants make Nanita such a warm and homey place. The owners are awesome, welcoming, and all around cool. If you have any questions about the town, what to see, where to eat, they will guide you to the best of the best.
My go-to's were the bbq torta, molletes muffuletta, and cookies!! You HAVE to try the cookies or whatever dessert is on hand. Keep in mind, the menu changes with the season, but again, everything is 10/10.
I am a vegan and Nanita surpassed my expectations. I am looking forward to my return 🫶🏾
P.S. ask about the 48 hour coffee blend if you're feeling up...
