Rocoto — Restaurant in Oaxaca

While the server was extremely friendly, I think we caught her on a bad day. She forgot my drink, broke a glass while making my drink, and even threw away my food when I told her that I wanted to take it to go….

Granted, she made all of those things right, and even had the chef prepare a little something to go after she threw my food away (more specifically, she told me that she fed it to the dogs lol)

Which was something I wish I had known about ahead of time… the restaurant has a dog friendly section!!!! I LOVE that! I definitely would have brought my babes with me, had I known.

As far as the menu, there weren’t many options for us being vegan. My dish tasted a little too oily for my liking. The dessert was charged full price, even though we couldn’t have the ice cream.

The server was very knowledgeable in what we could, and couldn’t have on the menu — given our dietary restrictions. I appreciated that about her. She was very friendly, and the reason I am giving this place three stars.

Very, very good food here. We had a reservation but it got lost somewhere in the mix. After showing the owner my phone and confirming that it was actually made, they soon resolved the issue by having a table ready for us within 5 minutes.

There is a reason this place needs 5 days of notice before you can eat here. It is really freaking good! I had mahi mahi with mango green curry and I wanted to order another but I was so full. But it was just that good. The margarita was excellent too. Although it is a Mexican drink, sometimes it can be hard to find a great one! But here was second only to Alfredo's!

The chef lady even came out at the end, asked specifically what we had, what we liked about it, and personally apologized for missing our reservation. All good.

Magical gem of a restaurant with fresh, high quality food and a magnificent chef. Our experience was so wonderful we went back the very next night. The menu is diverse and extensive, which it often cautions me that a restaurant can't possibly do it all well. But nothing on Rocoto's menu lacks effort, it all comes from a place of true passion and is very well executed. Everything we had was incredibly delicious with a beautiful presentation. This is 5-star dining in the most quaint location with very friendly, attentive staff. Both nights the chef came out and chatted with us and made sure everything was to our liking. Long story short - GO TO ROCOTO - it will not disappoint! We can't wait to go back next time we're in...
