If you want a restaurant with rather fierce air conditioning that is striving to be posh without adequate or relevant staff training, this is your place.

The staff (waiters and chefs alike) have no idea and make no effort to cater to dietary needs of their customers.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES, INTOLERANCES OR ANY KIND OF RESTRICTION TO YOUR DIET.

My family visited the restaurant last night with my son who is severely allergic to sesame. I should clarify that my family is from Oaxaca so there was no issue with language or communication.

We explained his allergy in detail to the waiter and my son ordered a pizza. One waiter assured me that the pizza would be fine for him and another waiter said that the kitchen didn’t use sesame. (Note - we told more than one waiter.)

When the main courses started to arrive, we were surprised to see sesame added to almost every dish. The waiters did not mention this or ask us if it would be a problem. The spaghetti had a chunk of sesame covered baguette plonked on top of it, a salad had sesame dressing, some black beans had a pile of sesame seeds on top. Worst of all, when my son’s pizza came, the base was covered in sesame seeds!! The waiter didn’t even notice and clearly the management don’t train the waiters so that they know the ingredients of each dish properly. The chef had been told of the allergy but he also clearly either didn’t care or didn’t take it seriously and ignored it.

My son was absolutely distraught, lost his appetite completely and I spent 30 minutes outside the toilets trying to calm him down. My dinner got cold and was not good anymore by the time I came back (soggy sopa de tortilla) and everyone else felt so bad they couldn’t enjoy their food either.

This was also an important farewell family dinner and the whole experience was ruined by the attitude of the restaurant and the fact that they didn’t even try to make things right.

Not only did they not offer any kind of discount on the bill considering that we left a lot of the food and that the dinner was ruined, but they didn’t even take the sesame pizza off the bill! We had to ask for it to be taken off ourselves. It was done, but with no apology. Nothing.

Honestly, unless you want to sit somewhere cold to eat, you can find better food at better prices with far more attentive and caring service elsewhere with just a...

This is one of the best restaurants in Huatulco, food is always great and service is extraordinaire. However, I’m very disappointed for the lack of flexibility with the management allowing service animals.

I have a medical condition where sometimes my anxiety gets really bad. My psychiatrist prescribed me to have a certified emotional support dog that can travel with me everywhere since these dogs are not pets, they are a health prescription.

My dog always travels in her bag and never let her go whenever I’m eating in a restaurant because I like to respect the establishment always. I always have her official documents with me in case I have to justify my dog in an establishment.

This time, the host, an old man was really rude and inflexible. He didn’t allow me the time to even explain the situation and he just let us seat outside in the heat with 80 degrees.

The most shocking thing for me was that other less renowned restaurants, and even my hotel where more friendly, understanding and extremely flexible.

I understand that the education, etiquette and conduct of people in Huatulco is not the best but for an outsider is really sad to be treated like that.

My recommendation would be to have more compassion with people with an incapacity and be listening more than talking or acting.

Also, I would invite the restaurant to be more inclusive and to learn more about different ways to improve service by allowing service animals (not pets) into the restaurant or adding a sign that says they don’t allow...

One of the few places with air conditioning, white tablecloths and napkins, this feels like a more upscale restaurant in town and it is lovely. Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience the last two times we were there on this recent trip. Our meals seem to have been forgotten and we were waiting a long time after people came and went with theirs. No apology or reason. We barely got any service at all and would have had more to drink had we had a server come over and ask us. The service wasn't very friendly either and we were starting to wonder what was going on, as the Mexicans around us were being waited on, hand and foot. We came back the next day to try again, and had another disappointing experience, my food was cold, the garlic bread was inedible like it was left on a counter for days. I tried to explain to the server who simply took it away and didn't replace it with a new one or offer any kind of assistance I had to ask for some bread after my meal was almost completely gone and they brought out a couple of thin slices after I had already finished eating. It was very disappointing, especially as we had liked it very much there previously and recommended...

Lovely and very popular restaurant. White table cloths and excellent, attentive service. Dining on the front porch under ceiling fans or inside with air conditioning. A diverse menu: a breakfast menu offering specialty stuffed french toast or attractively presented egg dishes, juices/smoothies/fruit shakes; coffees. Lunch and dinner menu with varied choices including pastas, pizzas, soups and other main courses. Salads are especially good, several with goat cheese and interesting ingredients. Two sizes of portions are offered for many dishes, a sensible option for people mostly wanting to relax in an attractive space for a while, without being overwhelmed by large meals. A showcase offers a wide variety of desserts, including New York style cheese cake, Neapolitan flan and carrot cake, among others. Fortunately, at breakfast, we saw the French toast arriving at a nearby table and realized we needed to share one order, along with cappuccinos and a strawberry fruit shake And finally- melodic instrumental background music for dining, at an appropriate volume that allows for conversation! In a sand and sun-filled world, Terra Cotta became a reliable oasis.

We received a lot of recommendations to come here and found the place to not live up to expectations. Nothing was terrible. But nothing like the raving reviews and recommendations this place gets. I think people just love the value - we had an appetizer, entrees, dessert and cocktails for only $979. We each had an Empanadas (cheese and Huitlacoche). The filling was good flavour but the empanada pastry was quite doughy and thick. The empanadas are pretty big and we could have just shared one. Our entrees were warm, not hot. Like it had been sitting awhile before getting served. We had the Terra Mar. It was a little bland for my liking and I wasn’t a fan of the cheese sauce it came with. The veggie sides were alright but also lacking flavour. We also had the Camarone Rellanos. This was the better of the two dishes. The side salad was refreshing. Carrot cake is a really big slice! I can’t imagine it being any bigger (saw another reviewer mentioning the slices have been getting smaller). The cake was ok and contains raisins. Margarita was good flavour but light on tequila. Sangria was heavy on juice and light on wine.
