Had a wonderful time here on an outing day to Chichen Itza. We came here for lunch following our tour at the ruins and learning about the rich history of the Mayans. Food was wonderful, people here were most accommodating and entertaining too. Sweet and smiling people. Everything was very clean. This is a beautifully landscaped and maintained location. Not only are the plants throughout the complex beautiful and indigenous species, but were also labeled so we can know what the plants are. Eating area is open, under large palapas roofs, breezy and cool. We came in April and it was very hot that day, about 95°F, but cooler under the high palapas roofs here, with fans making it breezy. I enjoyed that, keeping it outdoors but with shade and breezy with the fans. A full bar here is ready to please. I had an unusual request of a coconut lime margarita (just hit me ... seemed that would be perfect) because they said they had never had that request before. Two of the men at the bar looked at each other like they didn't know what to do, then one of the men there ran away and quickly returned with a fresh coconut! They used the juice from it with the lime margarita, all in a blender and it was the best margarita I have ever had, all poured back into the coconut! There are shops here too, though I didn't have time for the shopping. Wish I had, but we were with a tour bus for Chichen Itza and were headed to a cenote following our lunch. Restrooms were clean and spacious. Pueblo Maya was spread out with walk ways meandering through the beautiful landscaping. We took some beautiful pictures here. Entertainment was provided here too while we ate our lunch. They had dancers entertain for us while we ate. This place was like a hidden oasis along the long ride that day. Enjoyed it so much and would be happy...
Read moreI recently visited Pueblo Maya Restaurant after touring Chichen Itza, and I've got to say, it's a great spot to grab a quick bite. The restaurant's location is super convenient, being so close to the archaeological site, making it an easy choice for tourists like myself who are looking for somewhere to eat without straying too far.
The restaurant is set up in a buffet format, which I found quite handy. However, I did notice that while there are about 4-5 stations, some of them seemed to offer the same dishes as others. It didn't bother me too much, but a bit more variety would have been nice.
When it comes to the price-quality ratio, Pueblo Maya hits the nail on the head. You really feel like you're getting your money's worth here. The food is tasty, and considering the convenience and the amount you get to pile on your plate, I'd say the price is just right.
If I ever find myself back in the area after a day at Chichen Itza, I'd likely choose to eat here again. It's just so much more convenient than heading out to Valladolid, which is about a 40-minute drive away. Other places might have similar ratings, but you can't beat Pueblo Maya's location.
Overall, I'm giving Pueblo Maya Restaurant 4 stars. It's a solid choice for anyone visiting Chichen Itza and looking for a good meal without any hassle. Just a bit more variety in the buffet would make it perfect, but it's definitely worth a...
Read moreAfter visiting the Mayan Temple, we were taken for lunch at a Buffet Mexican restaurant called Pueblo Maya to experience proper mexican food.
On arrival we were given a small welcoming cup of "Chaya" which is known for its healing and medicinal properties and is used alot in the food in the Yucatan region. Many didn't like the taste, yet i found it refreshing.
The buffet has a great variety of local and international food (for those fussy eaters). We definitely stuck to the Mexican food to experience how different we see Mexican food vs what we have in South Africa.
The Tamales were very dry, their version of Tacos are quite simple with just the meat and its not stacked with cheese, guacamole and salsa like we are used to. Even our tour guide Alan, said please don't put cheese and tomato on it. I think my favourites were the Chilaquiles and the Taco Lime soup.
Desserts were normal, Rice pudding, Sweet Roll (a sweet soft sponge type cake) and Jelly.
We also got treated to the traditional Beer dance where Ladies dance while balancing a beer bottle on their heads.
A great big open restaurant, which does well for groups of tourists to give you that authentic...
