Fuego Restaurante y Cantina — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

Food was very bland, my side was wrong and when the correct was brought it was cold. The empanadas lacked seasoning and the cheese was very bland, no flavour. My grouper was also bland it had no seasoning at all. However the lobster was good, although I have not tried it myself. The cheesecake was a little tough, I was expecting creamier consistency.

The service was great and wonderful atmosphere.

You have to book and leave id on front desk, but my booking wasn’t even recorded. It was my fiancés 30th birthday and our reservation wasn’t on the list but after I’ve shown the hostess the email confirmation we were sat down… however no special dessert or anything was served and we’ve paid for a three course meal.

It was disappointing… I expected more for the price and I feel terrible because it was my fiancés 30th birthday that day, I wanted it to be special and it was below average.

I was also supersized that I didn’t get a discount for my main because I didn’t even eat my sides because they were brought cold and I said that to our server. That it’s cold and I can’t eat it, but still...

The worst ever!!!! Do NOT GO HERE!!! We tried to go here tonight to have a special dinner with the family and friends. We had a child in the stroller who fell asleep in the stroller. The way to get to the restaurant as shown by Google was by a walk on the beach, which we did. It was not easy with the stroller, we were happy to get there until we were turned away by the guard who just said we cannot go there unless we stay in their hotel. We asked if he could check with the restaurant to see if we could go in. They looked at us and said No. unacceptable service. If they only accept hotel guests, they should say so on their website. I’m actually crying right now writing this review, I was having lunch when the unexpected happened. I did not chew sufficiently and started choking on my meal. It was terrifying. All of the staff working took less than 5 seconds to react and they all surrounded me ready to help and do the Heimlich without question. I coughed it up in time but the whole staff was ready to help and brought me water and gave me everything I needed to make sure I was comfortable. I was so embarrassed but they made me feel so comfortable under such a traumatizing experience. Thank you so much to everyone working at Fuego on March 22 at 3-5pm. I am still crying grateful.
