It's an avenue that seems to be open 24 hours a day! You can meet and get to know people from many different countries! During the day, there are countless commercial stores (some of which are repeated), crafts, snack bars, ice cream shops, coffee shops, restaurants, museums and shopping malls. At night, some of the stores stay open until a certain time, but the real buzz is in the bars and restaurants! There's something for everyone, with all musical tastes! The variety of services and products on this avenue is incredible! However, the harassment from many vendors, waiters and tour guides who stand on the sidewalks approaching tourists is quite annoying. We get tired of responding to them so much. As for security, there are many police officers between the Paseo del Carmen Shopping Mall and Calle 38 Nte. After this stretch, heading towards Playa Punta Esmeralda, there is practically no policing on this avenue! In fact, some parts seemed abandoned and without government maintenance. Read moreThis is a really dynamic place. Lots of different restaurants, shops, entertainment, etc.
It’s worth visiting, very safe, always lots to see, and some brands you would recognize like Starbucks.
Very much American like, pricing is also a bit more expensive than elsewhere in the city.
All the foods are very safe to eat, all the drinks are very safe to drink, some restaurants offer very good specials, others offer a very amazing experience.

I don’t know why there’s not a recognition of the problem and how much this turns tourism off.
It’s not like they’re concealed, it’s not like they’re hiding anything, anyone walking by will be asked, in one day, the authorities could clean this problem up if they wanted to.
It’s the only stain on otherwise amazing...
Read moreUnfortunately the avenue is full of extremely overpriced restaurants and shops (e.g.30US dollars for cheap flipflops which have definitely seen far cheaper on Isla mujeres) with very little variety and quality in what is being sold.
The vendors made me feel very uncomfortable personally as they are always persistent for you to come into their shops even after you have said no -I had multiple vendors suggest they were from my hotel... And many that just wouldn't leave me alone. It meant I often avoided going into any shops even if I wanted to.
The only saving grace is that it is a short walk to the beach. There is also a variety of restaurants and bars (which probably make for a good night life though I went during the day) but be prepared to spend as much if not more than what you would spend back home for food and drinks i.e think...
