We went for our last dinner in Puebla and it’s so disappointed! The food has no taste and was Lukewarm. I ordered the traditional MOLOTES, which I haven’t got chance to try. It came with 3 deep fried big size dumplings, which I couldn’t taste anything other than the deep fried wrap. It doesn’t taste fresh at all. The guacamole is just plain avocado paste, I had to ask for some sweet onion chops. Even then, nobody showed any concerns and interest to know if we like our food. My husband’s skirt stake tastes better than mine, but he got the same tasteless guacamole and lukewarm dish. The fruity red wine mixed drink was not good either. I don’t think food is properly prepared in this restaurant. The staff dressed well and pretended to be 5 star restaurant charging 5 star price. But they don’t care about their food nor the customers. We had far better food and experience in other restaurants on the same streets in the past 3 days. I had to give One point to be valid so I tried to think of the positive elements, maybe the seating environment and English speaking waiters. Overall I would not recommend this...
Read moreAs someone originally from Puebla but raised in the States, I grew up with amazing mole, so I was excited to discover that Puebla has another well-known dish. After some research, Fonda de Santa Clara came up with excellent reviews, so I had to give it a try. I received a warm welcome and was seated quickly. There was live music in the restaurant. However, after the music ended, the performers went around asking for donations. I had only caught part of one song and didn’t have any cash on me. When I politely declined, the performer didn’t seem pleased and gave me an uncomfortable stare before moving on to other guests. Despite that awkward moment, the service was efficient, and the food arrived in a reasonable time. The mole tasted very similar to my mom’s—rich and flavorful but a bit sweeter and less spicy. The restaurant's specialty dish, however, was outstanding! I’m glad to say that Puebla truly knows how to make amazing food. Overall, I highly recommend this place for an authentic Puebla...
Read moreShort story- Would never go back. 2 hours for food to be served. Items were missing (food and drinks). There was no urgency until the manager and chef were involved. Food was cold and just sitting in the kitchen.
Long story- Really unfortunate experience. We were a party of 16 - when we arrived the restaurant at 4 pm, it was almost empty (2-3 other tables). Orders were taken and drinks were served fairly quick. Appetizers and random entrees starting showing up 2 hours later! Not all apps and soups were served. It took getting the manager and the actual chef to come out and see that we hadn’t been served! While we waited- another table of 16-18 came in and ate and left within 1 hr and 30 min.
When the food started coming out it was cold! It seems the food was made but just sitting in the kitchen.
It was so unfortunate because most of the food was tasty.
Waiters mocked my grandma as we left the restaurant. She simply expressed that she was very disappointed and would never return. Super rude...
