I have never once complained about a single business in Puerto until today. I love this town and find all the restaurants charming, with great service and always delicious food. However, Cafe Mono was a HUGE disappointment this morning.
Firstly and most importantly, our server (I presume wife of owner and owner as well maybe) was SO rude. She is the reason we will never return to this place and will never recommend this place to anyone. It is so unfortunate because it is the closest breakfast place to my home and I've been curious about this restaurant for some time now. We decided to give it a shot since our favorite restaurant, El Espacio is no longer open.
First, pet peeve of mine perhaps, I spoke to her in Spanish as I can speak Spanish but she continued to converse in English with me. Ok, not a big deal, but it is annoying when I am here showing respect and conversing in very understandable Spanish and she continues to respond in English as if I am incapable. Secondly, she took our food menu from the table without asking, for another table before we had figured out our order. Yes, we shared a menu. Once again, not too big of a deal, but at least ask.
Thirdly, I placed an order for a glass of water without ice while looking over our shared menu to which she stated we were only allowed bottled water. So they don't serve agua simple in Casa Mono, just FYI. She showed clear annoyance that I asked for a simple glass of water. Then, when I placed my order, it came out wrong. When I pointed it out, she huffed and puffed and complained so loudly that the whole restaurant heard as if it was my fault that she got the order wrong. I told her, that it's fine, but to at least add the sauce on the side and I'd make it work. She slammed down a ramekin of nasty looking hot mayonnaise oil that was to pass for salsa blanca and walked off. She didn't check back on us if we needed anything either. I had to ask another server if we could have salsa picante which she thankfully brought without us feeling like we were asking her some huge favor.
When we asked for the check in Spanish, she rolled her eyes at us and then placed the check down rudely. It was as if we were putting her out the entire time we were there. Like we we just so difficult by placing an order and breathing at the table.
This is only the second time I've come across such a rude server here in Puerto. I live here permanently and I always recommend great places for people to check out, but Casa Mono is not a place I could ever recommend to anyone if this is the kind of service people will expect. The food was sub-par as well. Just not a place to try. Avoid if you prefer servers that don't have a...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Casa Mono Café Bistro on our drive from Cancun to Tulum, with two very tired and hungry young kids in tow. What a find! From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the warmth and hospitality. Even though they were clearly busy, the owner took one look at our travel-weary family and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. She was incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially to our little ones. She made sure they felt welcome and even gave them a little extra attention, which instantly calmed them down. It felt like we were being welcomed into a family home rather than just a restaurant. The food was delicious and exactly what we needed to fuel up for the rest of our drive. Everything was fresh and flavorful, and the prices were very fair. Casa Mono, thank you to make us feel at home. We're so impressed with the genuine kindness and excellent service at Casa Mono Café Bistro. It was the perfect start to our vacation, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and a welcoming atmosphere, especially if you're...
Read moreMy wife and I met this lovely couple at a different restaurant down the way they told us about their café and we were very interested to go see. We ended up going for a walk today and coming across it so we stopped for lunch. What a great spot has super fresh and different food and their desserts are over the moon. You can tell that they are handcrafted and genuinely some of the best that I have had in Mexico. Was my wife and I first time but far from our last. We look forward to enjoying some of his wonderful blueberry muffins and breakfast looked delicious. Thank you once again for inviting us to your...
