Had heard good things about Maruca, so on my last visit to Queretaro I made a point of visiting this restaurant. Its location in the downtown area made it easy to find, plus the walk there was awesome in this historic city. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by Jorge, owner, and he kindly directed us to our table in a cozy, open patio where a nice breeze made our stay very comfortable. The lunch/dinner menu was quite interesting, with Mexican fusion dishes, traditional and modern tastes, varied textures in delectable combinations. Started off with Croquetas de Camarón (crisp, the shrimp filling awesome!) and Jalapeños Crujientes (spicy and flavourful). Followed that with Sopa de Haba con Nopal (faba bean soup with cactus leaf, delicious!). As our main, Tacos de Lengua y Consomé (tongue tacos, soft and tender!), Camarones Flameados con Ravioles Rellenos de Huitlacoche (huitlacoche, a mexican delicacy: corn fungi), Pulpo Adobado (grilled octopus in guajillo sauce), and Fusilli al Pesto con Camarones (pesto was done just right and pasta cooked perfect, al dente). Other highlights include the very rich Mole de Olla, Canelones Vegetarianos, and pasta options, such as Spaghetti Arrabiata Cremosa al Chipotle. Dessert was equally original, Churros con Helado de Café de Olla, house-made churros with a chocolate sauce and a refreshing coffee ice cream on the side. Had to try their Pastel de Elote (cornbread with a soft caramel topping). Every dish presented very elegantly; portions, generous. Service attentive and always smiling. Prices, quite reasonable. A must on your next visit...
Read moreHow about these creations? This is by far the best restaurant I’ve walked into in Queretaro. The owner, Jorge, greeted us at the entrance as we were wandering from our hotel nearby deciding where to have a late breakfast. He immediately informed us of their breakfast specialties. The ambience is lovely, minimalist decor, yet clean and cozy. I’ve been traveling around Mexico for a month now and and the dishes we had are top 10 for me! I’ll try my best to explain, but just imagine a dippable omelette in a rich, creamy sauce and a chile stuffed with scrambled eggs and some other ingredients. It was delicious! The two servers working were very attentive and when it got busier, Jorge was quick to jump in to help out. In my opinion, this restaurant would be a Michelin...
Read moreThe restaurant is very well located, it is a beautiful old house remodeled to be a restaurant, I’d definitely take people visiting Queretaro.
We went for lunch time and from what I gathered breakfast and brunch is much much better. We were there at 2:30 and the service was super slow, taking a lot of time to bring our drinks, food and anything we ordered. They had me wait for about 40 minutes while everyone had their food already.
The food was tasty but nothing...
