Stay away from this place! This is a small restaurant bar by the water at the children's saltwater pond inside Chankanaab.
The menus includes fast food and a few typical Mexican dishes The food is what you would expect, nothing extraordinary. Drinks are also available and waiters can serve you at the bar or at the beach chairs on the sand.
The menu has prices in pesos which do not correspond with the amounts in the your check. Usually, the waiter will not give you a paper check but will just say an arbitrary number when you request the check. I decided to check and noticed some serious discrepancies:
Chicken quesadillas were advertised at $290 MXN, which is already expensive, but I went with it. Sodas and canned nonalcoholic drinks are $60 MXN A 1/2 liter of bottled water is $60 MXN.
When I asked for the check the waiter said: $450! I took the menus and when asked about the prices, the waiter squirreled away and pretended to be busy. A senior waiter tried to give me the same amount and when I confronted him, he walso walked away, I then asked the cashier what was going on and she begrudgingly did the correct math and gave me the right amount. I ponted outthat my bottle of water was 1/4 lt and not 1/2 lt and she just shrugged.
It seems like this place has been reported in the past for this practice, which is not legal. I wonder if all other restaurants within Chankanaab use the same practices.
In sum, don't go near this place, they will openly try to rob you. If you do have to, double check your totals and pay with card soyou can dispute it later if...
Read moreNot surprised this place has terrible reviews as it encompasses everything that can be wrong with tourism in Cozumel.
This is a relatively new restaurant, management was recently taken over from another, almost equally bad place.
Waiters in this restaurant will go our of their way to rob you. Simple as that. They will quote arbitrary prices, "accidentally" give you the wrong change, try to act like thay are bad at math in order to give you a ridicuslously disadvantageous currency exchange.
Food is bland and prepared in a different building, so it will take a while to get served. Drinks are overpriced and the menus have inaccurate or misleading info as pointed out by others.
Cards are accepted but staff will pretend htat bank point of sales do not work in order to take cash. Just wait and see how magically the card works just fine.
My recommendation if you come to Chankanaab -- which is a great place to visit, is do not buy any food or drinks from this place. You...
Read moreFind somewhere else to eat in Chankanaab. I regret not looking at reviews first. Food is sub par and everything is overpriced. My wife and I ordered chicken nachos (they were very lack luster) and two lemonades (no alcohol). Our bill was $52USD before tax. The menu had lemonades for $5, but we were charged $16. We were informed that this was because they had served us...
