Review of Taj Restaurant in Cancun
We visited as a family with both vegetarians and non-vegetarians in our group. Here’s our experience:
Appetizers: • Onion Pakora: A bit too oily for our liking, though the taste was decent. We left some on the plate. • Paneer Pakora: Excellent! Perfectly cooked, and we finished every piece. • Sabudana Pakora: The taste was good, but the sabudana wasn’t soaked enough, which caused it to stick to our teeth.
Main Course: • Tandoori Chicken Tikka: This was a highlight! The chicken was well-cooked with a great tandoori flavor. It came with jeera rice, but without gravy, the rice felt dry—so I ended up ordering an additional curry. • Murgh Makani: The chicken (from the tandoor) tasted good, and the curry was enjoyable, though slightly on the sweeter side. I understand this might be to cater to an international audience. • Veg Biryani: A complete miss. It didn’t resemble biryani at all. Honestly, even calling it pulao would be generous—it was disappointing. • Naan: Slightly chewy, likely premade and reheated, but we still finished them.
Service:
Very friendly staff who made the experience enjoyable despite some food misses.
Overall Experience:
The meal had its hits and misses. I would consider eating here again but would be very selective about what I order. The Paneer Pakora, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, and Murgh Makani stood out, while the Veg Biryani...

We were seated in the beautiful arched wine cellar section, and our waiter Luis gave us amazing service. He brought us a mix of all the appetizers on the menu, including a tray of papadams with mint, chocolate, and mango dips. We also shared 4 main courses: the butter chicken, the vindaloo lamb, the chicken tikka masala, and the chana masala. All were delicious, served with a small side of perfectly cooked basmati rice. My partner and I shared the mixed appetizers and 4 main courses between us, and we're both pretty underweight so don't hesitate to order two main courses if your hungry. The mango sorbet dessert was also very good. All in all, we had a fantastic evening at the Taj. Reserve your places a few days in advance, especially during busy season, as it's one of the more popular à la carte restaurants...
Read morePiece of garbage. Not sure how it has a high rating. Anyone that has basic knowledge about Indian food wouldn't recommend this for even 1 visit. Every time we try to make a reservation, it won't let us do it online. When you go there, they'll give you a reservation time and will make you wait half an hour outside. Then when you go in, your food will take at least one hour to come out. There is a very high chance, it will be cold as well. We visited 3 times during our 7 day visit at Royalton (Each time due to a different person in our group waiting to give this restaurant a chance). Each time food came cold, and naan always came out cold and in lower quantity each visit then you ordered. Last visit naan was unbreakable. We just left everything as is and left the restaurant. Better off going to the Marche Buffet each night to avoid the chances of staying hungry or going to the Marche buffet right at...
