DO NOT VISIT if you cannot speak fluent Spanish or do not look like a local; they will try to rip you off. My girlfriend and I visited on the strength of several reviews. We were not given a menu. We ordered 2 cochinita tacos at the urging of a waiter and two beers. We were given another two tacos without asking for them. We asked for the bill when we had finished, but were not given one. We were simply told by a young male staff member that the meal cost 600mxn, which is far more than we had paid for equivalent meals throughout Mexico, even in tourist resorts. After expressing our surprise and confirming the amount three times, we eventually found another staff member who conceded the true price of the meal was 160mxn, which is still more than other restaurants nearby. Operators like this do not deserve to be supported. They leave tourists sceptical of other honest operators that do deserve your patronage and undermine the local industry as a whole. Anyway, the tacos are much better just down the road at Taqueria Honorio (and cheaper) and the staff there...

The reason I decided to write this is because on both visits the waiter added extra charge for nothing. First time we thought ok, maybe it was a mistake. But he did the same for the second time too. He propably thinks we are too stupid to notice, but no, we’re not. If it was small amount of money, ok, but it was like plus one meal. I’m so dissapointed about this place, because it makes a bad impression about all people at this country for me. (I experienced a lot of tourist traps here last week)
Be careful with...
Read moreI stayed at the Mimosa hotel in Central Tulum and walked to Taqueria Don Beto (24 minute walk down the highway on my way to the Tulum Ruins). I basically read reviews on how good this place was and me and my girlfriend had 3 tacos each and a coke and the bill was a 140 pesos total for 6 tacos and a coke ($1 each). It was a great afternoon lunch stop before walking to the Tulum ruins just 13 more minutes away by walking. The owner/cook you can tell is a hard worker and the local Mexico drivers and taxi/cab drivers were stopping here for lunch. If it's good for the locals you know you are in for a good meal at a...
