Pretty disappointing tourist-focused restaurant. I love chef-owner restaurants and that is what drew me here, but it is full of gimmicky schtick and surprisingly light on execution.
Upon arrival you have to listen to a long "brand"-focused story about the restaurant and the menu. Knowing a little about the chef and her ideas is appreciated but I would rather pass on the lengthy canned narrative presented.
The food (provided they don't mess up your order which they did by forgetting items) looks nice doesn't match to the lofty expectations they give you from their introduction. The dishes, which use noticeably fresh and thoughtfully procured ingredients, is fine, but certainly not extraordinary or overly compelling as an end product.
Then they come out to tell you to sign up to TripAdvisor and leave great reviews to get the restaurant to #1 from whatever number it's currently at. I would far prefer the food and service doing the persuasion on that aspect rather than an employee interrupting my experience, meal & cconversation to plead for such, but alas
Lastly the bill arrived and was incorrectly summed by a significant degree and met with a shrug and an excuse.
Service is very lackluster, especially given the small footprint.
The best parts of the meal were the complimentary ginger tea and soup provided at the start. These both were very well executed and balanced. Further, as mentioned, the ingredients seem high quality.
It is not a bad restaurant by any means. I think the owners passion comes through and I believe it comes from a very authentic place but the concept tries too hard in the wrong places and doesn't execute highly in the areas that do.
I would tone down the intro, get rid of the pleas for TripAdvisor reviews which are trashy and distasteful, ensure better service and without even tweaking the food it'd be in a far better place in my opinion. I just feel the focus is on an end result (i.e. bring number one) and not on the experience nor the food which is what really matters.
Itzalanyasayan is very heavy on concept and branding of which the lacking, spotty service and decent food...
Read moreOur group of 5 ate there February 10, 2023. They first served some very interesting and unusual guacamole with tostados, and we all loved that. I had the green curry with shrimp, and I quite liked it. I never had that dish before so I don't know how it should be (it was rather liquid), but I enjoyed it. The shrimp quality was great. San Pancho is a shrimp area. My companions, however, were more than disappointed with their dishes. They all had the Pad Thai, and no one could even eat it. They all said it was sour, unappetizing, with mushy noodles and dry, flavourless fish; it had no resemblance to the Pad Thai that they were familiar with. Coming from a large metropolitan city I know they eat out a lot and are educated diners. When the server cleared the dishes, she saw that only I had finished mine. We told her why and she said she'd pass it on. That was all. When we left the place, we met some other people outside, and we chatted with them about Yazmina's. They had ordered the same Pad Thai and had the same negative opinion. I don't want to be too picky in this review; maybe it was an 'off' day. We went there because so many others liked the place, but our group was certainly 'underwhelmed' with the food. EDITED FEB 13, 2023. Yazmina responded yesterday as the owner/manager and graciously explained the unusual circumstances surrounding our experience at her establishment. Further, she offered a dinner to or group at no charge, to show the confidence she has in her restaurant. We may head over this week, but regardless, I feel better understanding what went wrong there the other...
Read moreThis is probably the best food I tried in Riviera Nayarit region! Definitely the best whole food in San Pancho - healthy, tasty, creative, delicious and made with genuine love 🤤😍
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!! I would give 6 stars - one for every syllable of Yasmina's Place, ask her why. Yasmina's cuisine nourishes your mind just as much as your body. It sparks joy, love, curiosity and sense of wonder. And for those who believe in magic I can assure you - you will find it in every dish, but in one especially.
Yasmina's hospitality deserves an extra star 🌟 - she is friendly, attentive, kind and loving owner. It's a wonderful feeling when a person who feeds you takes rejoices seeing your satisfaction with a dish. And as much as Yasmina herself every member of her crew is really nice and demonstrates attention and care for people who come to eat there.
Well, I don't want to spoil it for you and let you explore all the variety of the dishes on your own. However, I can't withstand mentioning two dishes:
Guacamole - the best and most creative guac I ever tried. Treat yourself to this dish, please! Green quesadilla. I'm sure if French tried it they wouldn't bother inventing crepes. That green tortilla is an absolute delight, filled with tasty goodness of the seas it blow your mind, fulfills your belly and tingles all the tastebuds in your mouth. A masterpiece!
Huge thanks to Yasmina and her crew! May you all be happy, healthy and...
