We were happy to wait for 25 minutes for a table at this popular San Miguel de Allende restaurant.
We were seated on the covered rooftop close to the stairs and wait station, but somehow we were forgotten by the servers.
Others were seated after us, by about ten minutes, and had their drink order taken and the bread bowl brought to their table.
When the waiter was going to take the order at another table that had just sat down, we waved him over. He apologized, took our order, but again, others got their drinks, even ordering after us, and even got their meals.
Not sure how we could be overlooked. But our drinks came, we requested the bread bowl, since again, we were forgotten, and our meals came just two minutes after our drinks.
We ordered a Hibiscus (Jamaica) Mezcal Margarita and a Ginger Margarita. Our drinks were so good and a visual treat.
Our meals were fantastic!
The Montecristo, which is french toast with roasted pork was such a unique sandwich and not too sweet, with both cheese and mustard. A wonderful flavor blend. It was served with a couple of house made pickles and a small, fresh salad. Lovely presentation and the right size meal.
The Sexy Mexican Breakfast Bowl spicy pork sausage bowl was very attractive and quite tasty. Hearty meal. Beautiful presentation.
The views were lovely on a sunny day and the restaurant is charming. I'm sure the service is normally better as another four top that was seated twenty minutes after us finished up as we did. Not sure how you can miss the closest table.
Please note that there are lots of stairs. No issue for us, but it might be for some. Two or three flights for dining rooms.
Could've been a much higher rating. I'd still recommend it and hope for a better experience. Ours seemed to be the...
Read moreWe arrived today at 11am, a party of two, and was told it’d be a 15-20 minute wait. We found two spots to stand in an already crowded waiting area.
We saw many other parties (larger, I suppose they had to be seated as a group & had different needs). We waited calmly until it reached an hour and then were led to a table in front of the kitchen where it was blazing hot and a fan was roaring in front of us. We saw dish after dish being plated and could hear every clang of cookware and inhale the fume of everything that came out.
We were eventually led to a table on the balcony, about to take our seat when the MANAGER (who was very much aware of our situation from the minute we entered the restaurant) swooped in to move a party of three seated behind so they could have the obviously more choice table. I could not believe it.
This party was halfway through their meal and then occupied the said table for about 10 minutes and then left. We were then asked if we wanted to move. We already had our initial orders and were in no mood to be moved yet again.
Lesson: come at dawn if you want a table and don’t want to be shuffled around. I noticed quite a few unhappy looking customers glumly poking at their food so we weren’t the only ones.
Food and drinks were decent. Views were dismal. If you’ve been elsewhere outside SMA, this place isn’t worth it. Don’t...
Read moreMy wife and I experienced our first food poisoning experience here after traveling for 5 weeks in Mexico. We were incapacitated for 2 days. We had the vietnamese rolls, the 4 curry sampler for two, and 2 margaritas. One of the curries was oversalted, possibly to hide an off-taste, but I am just speculating about that. The service was excellent and the food very tasty, except for that one over-salted curry. The food was served barely warm, which also detracted from the overall experience.
Our only other food that day was a breakfast we ate several hours prior to dining here. We started feeling the effects of the spoiled food soon after leaving the restaurant, we had a very uncomfortable evening (I will spare you the details). Spent the entire next day recovering in bed.
This restaurant was recommended by a local expat, and we acknowledge the many favorable reviews. We realize that this may have been a very rare outcome to dining here, but felt it necessary to report our experience. We are certain that our sickness was due to dining here, and repeat that we have been fine eating in restaurants in Mexico over the...
