This is a place that is often talked about on Facebook from what I’ve seen, and i paid a visit here to try it myself. I got their guacamole which is good, nothing of note to say about it. Well, maybe that one of their chips is shaped like a “D” which is neat hahah. I ordered their beef tacos, and they’re really good. The tortilla isn’t your average tortilla that you find at every store here. I suspect its probably handmade even. The place is very simple, emphasizing the “simple” part because they have no walls, and just a laminated ceiling, which doesn’t look ugly at all, and under which are the tables. And the place where they cook is a very stretch, laminated and almost “food truck sized” stand. Outside of that they just have an extremely small set of buildings in which i suspect they store stuff and have restrooms. Their menu is extremely simple as well. You have at most 5 taco options which are you classic Beef, Pork and Fish, but also shrimp and “veggie” tacos as well. The beef one that i ordered actually have a very good taste that’s quite unlike any other meat of this sort you usually find on the island. I suspect maybe because the method of preservation of the meat they have. Also their “salsa verde” barely had any taste to me. Outside of that its overpriced. Specially for your average Mexican fellow. Imagine you come from almost every other part of the country and they sell you these 3 beef tacos for $100, it honestly seems quite abusive considering this isn’t supposed to be like a high-end Mexican dining experience or something and, with all due respect to the staff, it looks somewhat rudimentary and barebones for a restaurant. It’s got the advantage of being almost immediately after the entrance to the airport. (which i suspect ramps up the price a bit) its a very interesting place with tasty food but, coming from someone who lived in Mexico City for most of my life, i can tell you i don’t feel like what i got served and my experience was worth $100 a plate. And i don’t mean to compare the price range between Cozumel and Mexico City but even for Cozumel these are high prices. Worth a visit in my opinion but i don’t find myself personally constantly coming back...
Read moreVisitors to Cozumel, do yourselves a favor and head directly to Diego’s for some tacos. When you clear customs, take the two minute walk (maybe three with bags) and sit down under the shade of the red tarpaulin.
Once there you’ll find that their handmade tortillas are perfect. The habenero garlic sauce is different and delicious. As for fillings, the approach is well-executed simplicity. The shrimp and fish are my favorites, but I’ve tried them all and each is worth a taste.
The service from the family that runs the place is exceptional. Last I was there, mom was in the kitchen while son took orders and made great conversation (in English). They also seem to accept USD as readily as MXN and I think they’ll also take cards. After you’re meal you’ll be invited to write a message on their wall which is a sweet touch and really fits the vibe.
Overall I can’t say enough good things about the place or the people running it. It’s the perfect way to kick off your island experience and also a great way to end it when you...

This hidden gem near the Cozumel airport is a must-visit for anyone looking to escape the tourist crowds and experience authentic Mexican cuisine. We were lucky enough to discover Diego's thanks to our cab driver's recommendation and were blown away by the quality of the food and the warm atmosphere.
The tacos were made to order and were absolutely delicious. I opted for the carne asada and my husband had the pork, and both were flavorful, hot, and satisfying. The chips, salsa, and freshly made guacamole were the perfect complements to our meal. We also loved the tray of different salsas and sauces, ranging from mild to spicy, that accompanied our meal.
We loved the casual, garden-like setting and the friendly service from the family-run restaurant. It felt like we were dining in Abuela's house (your grandma's house), which added to the charm of the experience.
If you're looking for a memorable and authentic meal in Cozumel, I highly recommend...
