As I read other reviews I wonder if they are referring to the same restraunt. I have been here several times and find the food very good or I wouldn't be back. As for service it does vary but I have not had what I would call bad service. This restraunt is unique and gets a mix of locals and tourists. I am not a native speaker of Spanish and do not consider myself fluent by any means but can get by with my limited vocabulary and Google translate. Some servers here speak very fluent English others not so much I think some are maybe embarrassed they can't communicate as smoothly as they like and neither can I in Spanish so understand how it can be. I think they may not interact as much but are always responsive if I need something. On occasion you just have to wave a little so they know you need something. As for the quality of the sushi I don't eat sushi so can't speak for that but at the same time I do not go to a Japanese restraunt to order tacos or burritos. They do have a lot of good seafood and steaks. I find the prices reasonable and the view spectacular and is a great place for watching a sunset. I will qualify this review as to I generally go in the afternoons not during peak periods this visit was from 1pm to 3 pm. I do not feel rushed can enjoy ordering a few items at a time enjoy a few beers and enjoy my time. They provide an assortment of salsas and limes so if you find the food bland you didn't enjoy it right. I do highly recommend this restraunt to anyone it is a hidden gem. It is not fine dining more like an open air pub but could be a romantic setting to watch the sunset and have a good time without...
Read morePerched high above the Malecon, offering a 360 degree view all the way from Stone Island, to El Faro, to Mazatlan's busy port, the rise and fall of each swelling wave far below, and over to the coastline along the Malecon's length, La Marera offers exquisite food, friendly, bilingual service, 'roll your eyes back in your head' desserts, and food that is hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor at every bite. Try the 'Taco Guero', the 'Weathered Fish' tacos, the rice bowls or the Rib Eye - no matter what you order, "It's all good." VERY good. (Make sure to time it so you catch the sunset as you linger over desert. That combination is a spectacular way to end any day.) Sidepoint: Ls Marea has an upper and lower level, both with ocean views. The lower level is open until 1, has glass windows, and serves breakfast. The upper level opens at 3 I think, and is for dinner. No windows, so you can enjoy the warm, gentle ocean...
Read moreNo more beautiful location in all of Mazatlan! Worth coming just for that. Menu is extensive. My husband had the tuna sashimi. It was served with black and white sesame seeds and he loved it. I had the shrimp last brasas. Disappointing. It was overcooked. The clam chowder was the best we've had in Maz. Brush up on your Spanish, not lots of English among the wait staff. Don't count on there being a pulmonia or taxi available when you want to leave. There are not necessarily any. We ended up walking home which was really only 3/4 of a mile so no big deal. But if you have a long way to travel you might want to have the restaurant call you a taxi.
Second visit this time for dinner, group of five. Service was great, English was understood, we all ate some form of seafood and everything...
