I was slightly hesitant to try this place out for breakfast since this "breakfast and desert" combo restaurant seemed like an odd mix to me. After searching some reviews we decided to give it a try. After turning off the main road and approaching the restaurant, I was expecting to be quite put off because of the area, which was run down with dirt roads along with some locals trying to earn a buck. But then the restaurant seemed to pop out along the road. I could tell it was clean, well taken care of, and popular because of all the cars surrounding it. We found a spot and went in.
After entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted warmly by a professional looking staff that were all in the same uniform. Although we were waiting along with two other couples, my family of seven was seated within a couple minutes.
Once I began scouring the menu, my hunger bumped up a couple of notches pretty quickly. The names and description of the foods gave me a very good impression and I quickly knew I was likely going to enjoy this meal. Here's an example of one entree (which I ended up choosing): "Miguel's Sandwich - Homemade bread with chicken, ham, bacon, tomatoes, spinach, yellow chili and onions, sautéed with garlic oil, cream cheese, monterey cheese and a touch of dressing." Hungry yet?
While waiting our waitress brought us our coffee, tea, chocolate milk, and chocolate shakes that some of the kids ordered. Of course I sampled each one and was pleasantly surprised by each drink. The coffee was strong and flavorful. The chocolate milks had a smooth and creamy chocolate taste and weren't too sweet. And the chocolate shakes made me second guess my "adult choice" of coffee, as they were similar to the chocolate milks but with a well blended smooth creaminess to them, topped with whipped cream and more chocolate drizzle. Yum!
While enjoying our drinks I noticed how clean it was inside and the effort that was made to decorate. There were old wood "pinterest inspired" decor on the walls and the tables were well placed and rustic feeling. When one of my children had a spill, it was briskly cleaned up before I even pointed it out.
Our food arrived in what seemed like only 5-10 minutes. As each plate was set down my inner foodie started dancing a little. It's easy to see before even trying the entree's that the cooks here care about what they make. I knew before my first bite it was going to be a treat. The surface of the plate had a decorative and tasty, creamy drizzle, topped with a nicely sliced avocado half. Barely touching the drizzle was a modest portion of potatoes covered in mildly sweet sauce and my glorious looking sandwich, "Miguel's Sandwich". The sandwich was sliced in half and stacked one atop the other, stabilized by a sharp knife right through the middle of the two, with just the right amount of sauce dripping from the middle. The bread was grilled/toasted and had a crispy soft texture that broke apart easily as I bit into it. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to stuff some avocado inside the sandwich or eat it with a fork. With the somewhat fragile assembly of the sandwich, I opted not to pull it apart and mess it up. I forked the avocado's and dipped them in the sauce on the plate and shared the room in my mouth along with bites of the sandwich. It was a fantastic combination of flavors. I rinsed down periodic bites with sips of coffee. I was in my happy place with this meal!
I sampled the the machaca plate, which was well seasoned and flavorful, as well as the pancakes and waffles, which were slightly sweet and fluffy. Everything was wonderfully prepared and delicious.
This is a must try if...

Read moreAbsolutely wow! Yesterday we decided to finally find Candy Cake restaurant. Now we are very sorry we waited this long!
The pastries and cakes are amazing, the food is phenomenal, coffee is bold and delicious ( if you are a coffee fan who spends any time in Rocky point, you know how hard it is to find a good cup of coffee here, so this is a fabulous treat in it’s own right), the service is impeccable, and the prices are very reasonable. We are here today for a second time, because we just couldn’t wait; it really is that good!
Yesterday, we shared the Arrachera Sonora, a large combo plate with a monterrey jack cheese stuffed chili relleno over steak with chilaquiles , eggs, avocado, house potatoes and beans. We also shared a mini tres leches cake( Literally the best I have ever had, and I am a hardcore fan of Tres leches), and 2 strong, aromatic coffees . The bill came to $27.50, and was more than the two of us could eat together. Everything was wonderful.
Today, when we entered, the waitress that took care of us yesterday came over and thanked us for coming again. How nice to be remembered! We ordered two café Americano‘s ( superb! and they actually had cream, a rarity in Rockypoint restaurants, in my experience) chocolate Tres leches cake, a German chocolate cake, and a chocolate cupcake to take home. We also ordered a beignet to share; a lovely and quirky little sandwich bite consisting of a glazed doughnut, with cream cheese sauce, jalapeño and ham. Not a single thing was disappointing; it was all great. Their chocolate Tres leches cake is now my favorite tres leches…
The restaurant is well staffed, with a large, friendly and attentive team. Most speak English very well, so if you are shy about trying to communicate in a restaurant in Mexico , this will be a good experience for you. As far as I can tell, the place is always crowded & parking is hard to find. You may have to drive a little further and walk around the block. Do it anyways. You...
