I am local yachtie, and have avoided Hammerhead's for years. 2 weeks ago I was forced there for lunch, and it was GREAT !! It was solid American food. So I can't tell you the disappointment when I ordered "cream of carrot soup" which turned out to be a puree about the consistency of mash potatoes of puree de carrot, completely devoid of any spices. they put the croutons in the soup itself (for a carry out)....obviously we have to fish out those those disgusting soggy lumps of bread. AND, i also ordered Reuben sandwich, which was devoid of cheese (none at all). there was 1 tiny splash of both dressing and sauerkraut (about a tablespoon of each spread across an entire sandwich. it was accompanied by grated raw, cabbage without dressing. the edges of the meat were dry as if they had been improperly covered in the fridge. my cats liked the corned beef (good flavour, but cooked to death).
i'm writing this because i was so excited for some american food i thought i could rely on (for take-away). and it was barely edible yesterday....and not cheap either !! i spent $10usd on $2 worth of edible food....and they added a tip to the bill for pick up...another 40p.
i love san carlos....i've lived in mexico for over 7 years....but this place ranks among the most inconsistent....very disappointing...
Read moreI was looking forward to a nice dinner with my wife and her family but got the exact opposite. We sat down and waited about 20 minutes to place our drink order in the restaurant that had one table of six that were already eating, another table of two who arrived just before us, and a handful of regulars at the bar.
We received our drinks about 10 minutes after they were ordered and took that opportunity to place our food order. We each took our turn and placed our orders, all looking forward to a wonderful meal. Here is where the next decline happens.
We sat for a good 30 - 40 minutes before we even saw a hint of our food. The table of six had left about 10 minutes after we received our drinks and no one else had arrived. Our plates were set down and it all looked to be wonderful.
My wife ordered the fish and chips and received a slab of fish that was dry and overcooked with fries that were undercooked and looked like they came from the freezer section of the local mercado. I ordered the the Bacon and Bleu cheese burger and recieved a good looking burger but found it to be over ooked, dry, and bland. My fries were the same consistency as my wife's.
Do I recommend this place? Whole heartedly I recommend you find someplace else to go. Anywhere. For the love of God, just go...
Read moreI've never been impressed by Hammerheads. This is mostly due to the usual poor service. Today we decided to go to lunch there since we were leaving San Carlos for a few months. Friends talk up the Cuban sandwich so figured I'd try it. I ordered the Cuban while my wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. What showed up at the table was a grilled cheese sandwich on toasted white bread. Told the waitress and she took it to the kitchen. What came back was the same cheese sandwich with a piece of grilled chicken in it. The menu states it was to come on a bun with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sauce all for 120 pesos. While they grilled the chicken the fries and cole slaw sat under the heat lamp. They charged us 75 pesos for the cheese sandwich and an extra 50 pesos for the piece of chicken for a total of 125 pesos, and we still didn't get lettuce, tomatoes or onion. I say the Cuban sandwich was very good, plenty of pork and it was served hot to the table. This isn't the first time we've been disappointed with the food and service at Hammerheads but it is the last time I...
