What a complete let down; Utterly disappointing. We visited Cafe de Paris on our final day of a 5 day visit to Monte Carlo, so I’d say by then we were well versed on the type of food, service and atmosphere to expect in the local high end establishments. Firstly, from the outside, the large plastic tent attached to the front (for Oktoberfest) really ruins the look of the entire square. It also can’t be a great experience for those wanting to sit downstairs for a daytime coffee and watch the world go by. Anyhow, we hope once inside the actual restaurant things would improve and we’d be swept away by ambience and amazing service. How wrong we were. We arrived around 11:58, with our booking at 12noon. We were pointed upstairs as our booking was for lunch. The pleasant lady up there lead us to a table away and round towards the toilets. A sofa for two, which looks nice but has its back to the majority of the restaurant. You also have to sit forward to eat and have zero back support (99%) of the chairs upstairs looked like normal cafe/restaurant chairs, rather than sofas. All cafes like to give you bread. Their bread was OK, but the only place we left some. Everywhere else had us wanting more. The serving staff appeared a tad aloof. Nowhere near as welcoming and friendly as we have experienced EVERYWHERE else in Monte Carlo. Our two seater faced where the staff congregated between serving, and we could see they spent plenty of time chatting. I followed the eyes of two waiters as they were talking and could see they were watching a slim blonde lady walk through the restaurant. Sorry boys, but pay attention to the tables around you please. Food came. Wife ordered snails followed by a salad. She said it was all OK. I went for the lamb curry. I’d say out of all the meals I’ve had in Monte Carlo this was the blandest, and the only meal where I didn’t clear the plate. Wasn’t a big portion either, just boring. As the restaurant was filling up it was clear that we weren’t part of the cool brigade. Everyone was either outside or in the ‘busy’ area at the top of the stairs. My wife and I sat alone apart from a table of two business men opposite us. There was zero atmosphere. Also the staff seemed as though they couldn’t care less as to whether we were looked after or not. No one asked us if the meal was Ok. Again a first for Monte Carlo. We asked the chap who looks like the head waiter (black suit) for the bill, at around 12:55. We sat and waited. And waited. We tried to attract a waiter’s attention but there was no eye contact. None. Despite being right opposite the waiter’s “station”. They just don’t look at you. Eventually at 1:20 the head waiter walked past us and did a double take. He mentioned something to a waiter who after a couple of minutes (serving the busy part) he brought us the bill. 110 euros for the most underwhelming food experience during our stay. Atmosphere was non existent where they sat us. Food was no better than OK. Service was atrocious. I’ve had better service at Nandos.there are so many much better places to eat. If you are in the area and stuff then pop over to Hermitage Hotel. Le Limun restaurant is just past reception. Great service and fabulous food. A great place to watch the world go by too. Certainly better than sitting on a sofa with your back to a cafe while being ignored by...
Read moreWORST EXPERIENCE for GP F1 May 2024 Me and my husband spent Friday of the F1 race at the Cafe de Paris Friday to watch. I would never recommend anyone to go there again. We were sat at a table of 14. I thought we would have a table right against the railing to watch from our table. We brought this up to management and were told Senate Gran Prix was informed three months ago about the seating situation and there was nothing they could do. They eventually gave a table of four to one family. The service would have to improve before I could call it more than horrible.
There was an area along the railing they could have moved a couple of tables but we were informed that was for race viewing. When we stood there to watch the race they had moved another table for two in whose occupants told us to move because we were blocking their view. After a lengthy, and somewhat heated discussion, they moved a table in the empty space so my wife and I could watch the race. At the end they gave us a bill for 600 euro’s for the groups drinks as the people at the large table had left. I have no problem paying for my drinks but I don’t drink alcohol so I just had several ginger ales while my wife had a couple of spritz.
After finally getting ahold of a rep from Senate who talked to a manager they agreed we didn’t have to pay the full bill. We did try to pay for ours and they, after multiple phone calls, said it was taken care of.
I couldn’t say that any part of the experience was worth it. The view was mediocre though we did have a Jumbotron across from our location. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement.
The SERVICE HORRIBLE , waited a long time to get the wine, food … rushed every moment… and the waitress took the bread out of my hand, picked up the bread plate in order to serve the next part of the meal. I could not believe that he did that … only ONE waitress was helpful and nice . The manager that put us in a table but the rail with a really BAD attitude . No excuse to treat clients that way . My advise DONT spend your money in that place...

Food and drink- We did not get alcohol as we had children with us and we are Arab Muslims so couldn’t really get the champagnes and cocktails but we did get the refreshing lemonade witch had a sour but not overpowering taste, it matched really well with the sweetness the lemon based drink had. Now for food, I got the French onion soup for my starter, I haven’t had a nice French onion soup quite frankly ever so this had me very happy. I’m being so honest I can’t really explain the taste but I do think the idea to put cheese and bread on top was a very good idea as it gave it texture. Now, the salmon was MAJOR let down, sadly it was very basic and didn’t have flavour, you would normally find salmon with a side but it was just by itself but the prawns redeemed the meal by a far mile! The portion had me full up and not in desire for dessert (which is very rare 🤣) the prawns were very tender and the spicy aoli went very well. There was also a side of rice which was just… well…. rice!
SERVICE-The service was amazing, staff were very happy to recommend seafood and vegetarian dishes and had a smile on there face all the time. They are also very flexible with language and showed us nothing but love and respect.
ATMOSPHERE- First we stayed inside which held beautiful architecture and brung back memories of my 2 French houses. After, we chose to sit outside so we could look after our car as people were taking pictures of it and acting like it was theirs 🙄
Great resturant...
