RR Ice is an upscale and unique ocean-front café and restaurant in Tangier, Morocco. It is located far from the noisy downtown area (beyond the Mövenpick Hotel and Cappuccino).
RR Ice has, perhaps, the best panoramic view of the Strait of Gibraltar in the entire city.
I had preferred Cappuccino, not far away, but now I think RR Ice is clearly better because of the unbeatable ocean and distant city views.
Inside, the spacious seating areas are surrounded by huge floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows. The interior is sparce and modern. The service can be somewhat slow at times, and more professional waiters should be hired.
I was invited for a late afternoon lunch by a friend from Agadir, and the cheeseburger with onions and mushrooms was excellent, but when I ate the first French-fried potato, it was lukewarm and not hot. More paper napkins should have been given since the burger was a bit messy and the bun started to fall apart. Still, it was good. I would have ordered a pizza but none had anchovies, which I love.
There is a quieter and spacious upstairs area also with panoramic ocean and distant city views. The ultra-modern men’s and women’s toilets are located upstairs. I was impressed by the onyx rather than marble on the columns, and when I walked down the stairs, I noticed that onyx is also used on columns on the main level.
There is a large outside terrace directly facing the ocean that has numerous tables, many with unusual mushroom-shaped umbrellas to shade you from the sun. The outside terrace is almost completely occupied in the warmer months. I later noticed there is another lower terrace with tables and chairs, and both outside terraces provide the same panoramic views and have glass barriers to make it less windy.
Inside, there are a few large flat-screen televisions that continuously display closeups of a roaring fire during the winter months.
RR Ice place is not cheap: a coffee with milk costs 27 Dirhams and up, and two pieces of toast with a minimal amount of saumon fumé costs 35 Dirhams. (I was disappointed at the skimpy amount of saumon fumé on my wheat toast.) On another visit a coffee and orange juice cost 51 Dirhams, and I left a tip bringing the total amount spent to 60 Dirhams.
Nevertheless, there is an extensive menu of breakfasts, lunches and dinners that are well-prepared and with generous portions that are served by polite and efficient waiters.
I was happy to see two waiters whom I had not seen in years, who are now working at RR Ice.
I was given a little extra coffee for free, but the miniature bowl of olives I would have liked to have finished were suddenly removed from my table without asking if I was finished.
There is a large parking lot for customers' cars on one side of RR Ice. Recently I met a man who lives near the café and restaurant and he told me that he has a coffee there several times each week.
Credit and debit cards are accepted. RR Ice has strong WiFi that also works very well outside and upstairs. The café-restaurant is reasonably quiet, but you might hear some buzzing background noises from people sitting at other tables and occasionally discrete sounds of music from the...
Read moreI went to try this stupid restaurant for the first time. I went with my family and my small kitten. I parked my car and entered the café. As soon as the waiter came, the first thing he said was: “Did they let you enter from the door?” That was not very polite, but it’s fine—I replied, “Well, no one told me anything until now.” Of course, he was referring to my small kitten, and I even remember that he arrogantly said, “I’m the one responsible here.”
After that, he came with his supervisor. The supervisor stated that animals are prohibited and that we should leave. I said, “Well, this is my first time visiting the café, and I was very excited to do so.” We also clearly stated that our cat is vaccinated. He insisted, so I said, “Okay, we’ll leave.”
At that moment, I was playing a rated chess game, so I told my family that I would just finish my 2-minute game and then we would leave. While doing so, a manager came in and said that it was fine and that they could let it slide this time. He was polite—for the record. We welcomed his initiative and stayed.
We ate. The food, to be honest, was of high quality but not tasty at all, and that’s my honest opinion regardless of everything else.
Anyway, we finished and were getting ready to leave. Now things started to get funny. First, while going to pay, the earlier supervisor literally asked me, “From where did you enter?” That wasn’t nice at all, especially since they had already welcomed our stay, and at that moment, I was just leaving.
Also, the manager kept insisting—multiple times—that my sister hold the kitten very tightly to her chest so it wouldn’t be visible on the cameras. I didn’t appreciate any of that, and I think it was completely unnecessary. They gave us an unpleasant feeling, and I felt like I was hiding something illegal or dangerous. Dude, it’s a small kitten, and he was literally sleeping the whole time under our table.
I really don’t understand people—bringing a kitten is prohibited, but allowing someone to smoke right in your face is totally fine?
Anyway, in brief: that place is not animal-friendly. Think twice if you have a pet. Also, honestly, the food...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️ I visited this restaurant and overall had a great experience. The food was delicious, especially the desserts (Pastele), which were absolutely amazing. The waiter was very kind and helpful, offering honest recommendations with a warm smile throughout our visit. 🌟🌟🌟One of the highlights for me was the availability of a prayer area for both men and women — a thoughtful and much-appreciated feature. The location is also stunning, with a breathtaking view of the sea where you can watch the sunset.🌅
However, there were a couple of things that bothered me. First, the staff seemed to be under a lot of pressure due to the restaurant’s policy on fast service. 🥺🥺🥺 While quick service is appreciated, the stress on the waiters was clearly visible and a bit uncomfortable to witness. Second, the menu was only available in French, with no Arabic option — which felt strange for a restaurant in an Arab country like Morocco. ‼️ Also, the prices were quite high compared to local standards. Overall, it was a lovely experience with great food and service, but there’s definitely room for...
