Unfortunately it was a negative experience for us.
When we arrived no one was there, no customers, no staff. We went inside to look for staff hoping someone will come soon. There was someone sleeping on the bench opposite the till.
It is a huge space, it was empty when we came. We thought maybe it was because it's a weekday, better for us so we will be served fast as we just arrived and we're hungry. Finally waiter came to us and we gave our order harrisa Kofte Lamb tajini
We were told it will be ready in 40min.... Okaaay we can wait, we are tired and hungry and don't want to walk anywhere, they are probably preparing from fresh.
Half of the things from menu was not available Apparently they serve couscous only on Fridays
After 1hrs we asked and he said an other 10 min
Finally arrived.
What a disappointment. Shop bought bread which wasn't even warmed but probably microwaved. Kofta was a strange dish... meatballs with tomato sauce and half cooked onions. Lamb tajini was a disaster - a big piece of bone with few vegetables which we wanted to eat but unfortunately it was all burnt and had a bad smell, very dry, no liquid as the bottom of the dish had a thick layer of charcoal.
We considered to eat it but it wasn't edible unfortunately and I decided to speak to staff. There was no denying, even he couldn't agree it was worth serving. Somehow we managed to understand and he said he will cancel it and gives us something else. After confirming it won't take an other 1hr we agreed. We got some different tajini dish, chunk of less bony meat with prunes. By then we were so disappointed in the whole experience that we ate it to not go away with empty stomach.
Payment was an other disaster. Cash machine was not working.
Somehow we managed to explain that we will pay in euro and they can give us change in dirhams.
I don't recommend this place unfortunately. Food is not tasty Service is very poor Portions really small
While walking out past the kitchen there was a terrible smell of burnt food coming out, not their finest...
Read moreThe worst Moroccan restaurant experience I’ve ever had. I do not recommend it to anyone who wants to discover real Moroccan cuisine. It was a disappointing experience, especially since I was with foreign friends and wanted to introduce them to Moroccan food — but it was a complete failure.
We ordered a lamb and vegetable tagine. They said it would take some time due to the vegetables, but after one hour, they brought a tagine with only lamb and prunes — no vegetables. It smelled burnt, and the taste was just as bad: completely burnt and unpleasant. They replaced it with another one, but it had the same burnt flavor.
We also ordered “Rfissa” — it arrived cold, dry, and without broth. Its taste was sour and honestly the worst Rfissa I’ve ever had. They served salads but only brought bread 40 minutes later, making it impossible to enjoy the starters.
It’s embarrassing that this place in Tangier carries the same name as Dar Naji in Rabat, which is, without a doubt, one of the best Moroccan restaurants in terms of food and service. This restaurant in Tangier does not deserve to carry the same name.
Note: I had heard many times that Dar Naji in Tangier was bad — now I’ve tried it myself and I can confirm it.
Read morePros: ambiance is nice, decor is traditional, music is good (no live music), location is easily accessible (near Riad-Tetuan), staff were friendly. The food presentation was good. The morroccan soup was delicious. Prices were reasonable. Cons: the Tajine was overcooked and was in fact a bit burnt and stuck to the bottom of the dish, the Stew or water portion was completely dried out or burnt. The skewers were very cold by the time they got to us and it tasted bland. The service was pretty slow to the point that I had to get myself the menu and chairs and had to go to them to ask for things. Overall: I cannot really recommend the food nor service, but if you like a pretty traditional place then Dar Naji gives...
