As a Mexican mother married to a Moroccan and a passionate surfer with a love for seafood, my visit to Merzouga was a delightful exploration of flavors that left a lasting impression.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and ushered to our table in the charming ambiance of the restaurant. The decor, infused with traditional Moroccan elements, transported me to the bustling souks of Marrakech, setting the stage for a memorable meal.
As a seafood enthusiast, I was thrilled by the fresh and vibrant selection of salads at Merzouga. The Moroccan-inspired salads were a refreshing introduction to our meal, bursting with the flavors of locally sourced ingredients and aromatic herbs that complemented each other harmoniously.
The highlight of our dining experience at Merzouga was the impeccable selection of grilled fish. The chef's expertise in preparing seafood shone through in every dish, as each piece of fish was perfectly grilled to tender perfection, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. The grilled sardines were a standout for me, evoking memories of seaside dining in Mexico with their simple yet exquisite preparation.
My Moroccan husband, well-versed in the nuances of Moroccan cuisine, was equally impressed by the quality and authenticity of the dishes. The grilled fish selection at Merzouga showcased the best of Moroccan culinary traditions, while also incorporating subtle nods to asian flavors that delighted our palates.
To complement our meal, we enjoyed a selection of Moroccan mint tea, a refreshing and aromatic beverages that served as the perfect accompaniment to our seafood feast.

We ordered 9 dishes. In every dish, half was great and half was stinky and rotten. It seems as if they had an issue with the freezers… but still they served people those products. This is applicable to all products that were frozen… seashells were just disgustingly stinky and even started decomposing. The Fresh products seemed fresh and great (grilled fish). A funny thing, they served Mussels and Cockles not cooked… so impossible to open and impossible to eat them (that was the half of the sharable Dish that was not rotten).
The restaurant all in all seemed good, not lacking much to be a great one. But they seem to have started to save electricity by turning off freezers or something … if someone dies because of that… surely the restaurant will need to close. I hope they will react and readjust the quality of there products.
Given the number of similar reviews talking about products been rotten and stinky in the pas few years… I am wondering why local authorities didn’t react already… to close this restaurant until measures are taken … or to close it forever and avoid intoxicating more people!
The servers were...
