I want to start by saying the food is amazing 10/10 and so are the cocktails. We've visited Sumi 4 times so far, twice just for cocktails and twice for dinner (within a week!) The service, on the other hand has been only okay we haven't been impressed although the delicious food made us come back. We had our 4th visit tonight and sadly it will be the last. As much as the food can be out of this world we just cannot put up with the borderline poor service anymore. The waiters are unenthusiastic, the place wasn't full at all, 10 mins passed and we are still waiting for attention for some basic service really. In a place of this standard you would expect well standards... and that you'll be offered to order drinks pretty soon at the minimum. The waiters would never come to our table on their own initiatives we always had to waive to catch their attention. We eventually left without desert tonight. Once we were done with mains, a waiter cleaned up the table and no one asked us for desert for 10mins. We decided to leave. Both times we had dinner at Sumi the owner seem to make a round of the tables to check if things are fine which seems strange when the floor team are not impressive. You will remember Sumi for the food and forget about it because of the unmemorable poor service. We won't visit again as it seems they are not interested in growing their business and winning...

Whenever you say you’re going to Tofo, the one thing you can expect to hear from people is ‘ooo make sure you go to Sumi’! It seems to be the number 1 culinary recommendation for the area, so we thought we had better check that out.

To make it short - the hype is worth it. The food is bloody delicious. Fresh, very high quality sushi, prepared meticulously and full of flavour. The other Japanese dishes are good too- we tried very nice gyoza, and tempura. The cocktails are also excellent - some of the best we tried in the area.

The restaurant space itself is very attractive too - lovely decor, relaxed feel and comfortable. Service friendly and welcoming. Pricing is not that cheap but not unreasonable - ÂŁ60 for two (but we ate really a LOT, and had cocktails).

Definitely one for the...

Tasty food at European prices. Nice atmosphere. Slow service. Bit disappointed but no competition at all so it is what it is. We waited 1 hour for our sushi to arrive. Tasty but very stingy with how much fish is actually on the sushi (let’s be honest here, owners, you know how little salmon is actually on that sushi
). Small portions for high prices. When the sushi finally came, we ordered ramen, which took another 40 minutes to arrive. So we were at this place for nearly two hours before we felt like we had a good meal. At least the atmosphere was good and the owners were nice. Might try something else next time because we noticed some of the other food there doesn’t...

Oh. My. God. Is this the best spot in Tofo? YES. Do I wish I had discovered it before my last day? A thousand times YES! We had the spicy tuna roll, the pork dumplings, the crab salad, and the crab croquettes—and every single bite was so freaking finger-licking good. Honestly, it was one of those meals where you don’t want to share, but everything's so good you end up passing plates around anyway. The vibe is chill and stylish, the cocktails are on point, and the food is clearly made with love and serious skill. If you're in Tofo, make Sumi your first stop—not your last like I did. You’ll thank yourself later.

Fast service, good portions, friendly & helpful staff. A bit annoying that the menu is only visible on a board and not printed so that people need to run around to see what's available... food is good but not overwhelming good. I was a bit disappointed by the lobster roll which basically consisted of more mayo than lobster. In general the dishes I had are missing a bit of a kick and complexity. The spinach crab salad was also with too much Mayonnaise, some fresh lime would help here...A bit expensive too ... Overall good but nothing that I'd highly recommended.

I would eat here over and over! The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The service was friendly and the owner/manager made sure to make us feel welcome. The menu is great for sharing. The portions aren’t huge but they are delicious. I had the crab croquettes which came with three absolutely stuffed croquettes and a delicious dipping sauce. The crab was really fresh with a nice hit of wasabi. I also had the spicy tuna roll which was wonderful with a delicate fresh tuna and a perfectly spicy sriracha style mayo on top. Spicy goodness!
