I love RTH, and take all my out of town work associates here, but a recent experience is having me question my loyalty. I typically order the Mandalay Mee Shay Noodles with an addon of fried pork belly. It's an addon clearly available in their "noodle additions" section for 10000mmk, and something I have ordered dozens of times in my 9 months living in Yangon.
I placed my order as above, then the waitress came back and said the chef refused to make the addon. It wasn't out of stock, but she couldn't articulate why other than saying it's a new chef and they refused. It wasn't like I was asking for the addon for free, I am a happy paying customer. My partner speaks Burmese, so I thought maybe there is a language gap in articulating the issue, but no, again, the chef refused to make my noodles with the paid addon as requested.
I decide to just cancel the order and get some dim sum and the rest of my party has no issue ordering their meal. Then, as the party is finishing their dinner, the waitress comes back and says they would actually be able to make the order as requested. Thanks...but I am not going to make my party wait at the end of our meal just because someone in the kitchen or management had a change of heart.
One of the most bizarre dining experiences I have had. The waitstaff as always was very kind, and I felt bad they themselves couldn't understand the behavior of their kitchen. They also kindly half priced the beer I had with my meal, but the experience was disappointing.
Edit: I appreciate the response from RTH below. If no issues with future orders, will gladly edit my review to reflect my otherwise positive...
Read moreThis is a fusion-style restaurant offering a mix of Burmese local dishes, Indian cuisine, and items similar to Cantonese-style tea house fare. They play traditional Burmese music in the background, giving the place a nostalgic and cultural atmosphere.
The restaurant is housed in a two-story wooden building with a spacious layout, creating a grand and open feel. It has a classic charm with a touch of local character. Aside from being a bit noisy, the overall environment is quite nice — I would rate the ambiance between 4 and 4.5 stars.
As for the food, the portions are quite small and the prices are on the higher side, so the value for money is relatively low. I'd rate the food around 3.5 stars. If the pricing were more reasonable, it could deserve 4 stars.
The service is decent. The staff speak English, and there’s an English menu available. However, the Wi-Fi is basically unusable. Service overall can be rated 4 stars.
In summary:
Food: 3.5–4 stars (due to small portions and high prices)
Service: 4 stars
Environment: 4–4.5 stars (minus some points for...

Update : upstairs bar is now constructed and nobody stopped me from going up. Cigar and whiskey on couch should be a dream here.
The restaurant building is a newly built structure out of antique wood, using traditional methods. The cost must have been staggering. The beauty of place is breathtaking and every furniture there is an antique.
If you're lucky enough to get upstairs, the beauty of old Myanmar, with persian carpets lining the wooden floor, makes this the most emotional restaurant I have even been in asia.
The food is not the menu of Pansodan RTH which I love and was one of the first reviewers there, however, it is very good in itself, and I must relearn it.
So now there are 2 go to restaurants in Yangon, both of the Rangoon Tea houses. Kudos to the owner, and the seemingly unlimited creativity spent on this project.
To date, I'm most...
