The Black Gold Mediterranean House — Restaurant in Lalitpur Metropolitan City

I had really high expectations from this place, especially after seeing so much buzz about it on social media. I went there with a friend yesterday and honestly, it was a big disappointment.

We ordered lamb with hummus and tagine chicken, and I also tried a mango mocktail. The lamb dish had an incredibly small portion for the price, but I let it slide because the hummus was okay. The cocktail was decent, nothing amazing but drinkable.

The real disappointment was the tagine chicken. I’ve never had such a bland and poorly done chicken dish before. It was mostly just raw cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots, with barely any chicken, and the few pieces that were there tasted like they had just been steamed with a pinch of salt. No flavor, no spices, nothing that even remotely made it taste like a tagine. The gravy felt like someone just blended canned tomatoes and poured it over the plate, that too was very thin.

On top of that, the service was just as bad. No one asked us how our food was or if we were enjoying our meal. And for what we got, the bill came to around Rs2500 which felt ridiculous for such a disappointing experience.

Definitely not going back, and I wouldn't recommend it unless they seriously step up both their food...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Black Gold Mediterranean House which was located in International Club Sanepa, I was looking for this specific cuisine in Kathmandu and found only this place and also was a Halal too. I must say, my experience was truly exceptional! Cold mezze combo was a masterpiece, with its perfectly balanced flavors and beautifully presented plate. Tried this place for the 1st time and I doubt we will visit it again. Though the food was tasty, the service was terrible and the food took forever to arrive. Service was extremely slow and doesn’t feel very well organized. We had to constantly check on the server about our food. The 1st meal didnt even come complete, had to ask for the missing item which came after the meal was almost done. Food tasted ok, and there’s definitely room for efficiency in service.
