Taj Mahal — Restaurant in Almere

By far the worst experience in the Netherlands. Avoid if you can. Service is terrible: I had to call the waiter thrice just to get plates and spoons for everyone, he was more keen in watching the IPL 😂. Food was average: in comes the starters (non-veg platter), mutton was not cooked at all, in all my wisdom I thought of giving this feedback to him ever so politely and even mentioning that I am not looking for replacement. And he just flipped, immediately cold reply "its cooked sir", even without looking at the dish, when I showed him the cut piece, he took the plate inside and came back in a few seconds and says I told you it's cooked 😡. Still not the worst, he then went after our kids, saying your kids are making a mess, we have other customers to look after. Irony was that there was only one more couple dining in 😆. Any ways couldn't take it any more and walked out with the kids. Got the food packed (because of the polite lady, probably the owner, who tried to calm me down but didn't mention a word to the waiter), in hind sight shouldn't have done it. It wasn't worth eating, they had even changed our order.

Just love this place!

First of all: plenty of parking space nearby, and plenty of tables. Reservation is not required, but possible.

Very welcoming ambiance, the (Indian) music is exactly the right volume to be heard but not loud. No over the top decorations, just enough to make one feel like one might be in India.

Now the food: they have 4 or 5 menus that really offer something for everyone. Vegetarian, lamb, chicken, a kids menu (it's a cute smaller menu, but still proper Indian food). Then there are the individual dishes. Too many to describe them (menu is online too, with prices), but if requested they can be made extra spicy (for the daredevils) or a bit milder, for people with other preferences. So far the food. Drinks: the standard, but they had Cobra Beer, a lager that drinks like an ale. Yes please! Just the one though, we were by car. Oh and the desert: ice cream. But GOOD ice cream, not the ordinary stuff. Again: yes please! And then we were full.

Service was excellent, always nearby, never obtrusive. A pleasure to visit.

Food is fine. Service is ok. Price is high. Thus, for the price, it doesn't make much sense. As an example - My young kid wanted to use water from his bottle but restaurant didnt allow but insisted on buying bottled expensive water from them ( I wish you had clarified if it was for entire family or just the kid). Insane. We asked for some Pickles and realized that even that was charged in bill ( it could have been told that its chargeable). While i am fine with charged for smaller items and its understandable, all things put together didnt add the "wow" factor. Back to Tulsi :). Overall, i was fine with the food if i dont look at the bill...
