Fun ambiance and inviting interior. However, bad experience with the hostess at the beginning of the evening - so will definitely not be back. Do not recommend for anyone to go either since the food did not make up for it. Food was not bad, but nothing exceptional.
I was here on a Sunday for my birthday (24 April 2022). Overall, the girl that serviced us was lovely and helpful (she is the reason for two instead of only one star). Unfortunately, the experience was not fully exceptional.
As we wanted to celebrate a bit, I booked for two time slots online (6-8pm and the one after that). we wanted to start with with some drinks & snacks before moving into proper dinner and two hours would be a bit short.
Normally, on thu - sat I would actually not book two time slots as I know from experience (working in a restaurant) that restaurants would want to serve more clients on those days and the waitinglists could be long.
Once we arrived, I immediately mentioned to the hostess that I booked two time slots. And basically she told me: well, we are not really happy with that. Cause we want to serve more clients.
Without any communication: once we sat, and she had taken our coats - I received an email that my second time slot was cancelled. I didn’t ask whether this means that we have to leave at eight (wanted to avoid confrontation)… spoiler: in the end, we could indeed stay, since the restaurant was not full at all… (so what’s the fuss about even?)
Would have been nice if it was communicated to us, both the cancellation as well as the likelihood that we could stay.
After food, when I stood up to go to the bathroom - I saw my white coat draping on the floor across from the bathroom. Must be honest, a part of me kind of took this as a bit of a middle finger from the hostess from the beginning of the evening (she took our coats).
I waited for a bit to write this review, because I didn’t want to be caught in the moment and be super unreasonable about it. But honestly, even after a month - I still feel weird about the situation and thought might be helpful to share.
Overall, I think the experience would have been very different if the communication would have been different. Unfortunately, what happend happend.
Sophialaan location is way more inviting in terms of service. Although, after this bad experience, honestly I’m not sure whether I will be back soon to any of the other...
Read moreI was excited to try Ron's as i had heard some good things. From the moment we stepped in the door the experience was terrible. We were "greeted' by a women who barked at us for our booking and then walked away. We had to call to her to clarify if we were to follow, the restaurant was empty so it was not a case of being busy. She continued to make a big point that we were English speaking, and "needed" English menu's. There was no information given that there were two menus and that we had only received the snack/light bites menu.
When our guests arrived, she asked, rather brusquely, if they were English speakers as well (they weren't). She continued to make unnecessary comments about our language preference, leaving us all feeling uncomfortable. We’ve all lived in the Netherlands for years and are accustomed to the directness in communication, but this felt rude and unwelcoming to the point we were still discussing it days later.
After this, she seemed to completely ignore us, making it hard to get her attention for any further service. When I was leaving, she was standing in the doorway with a colleague, blocking the exit. I had to excuse myself just to get past, and she didn’t even make eye contact, let alone say goodbye.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and, frankly, quite unpleasant. I hope Ron’s can address this type of service as it leaves a lasting...
Read moreA cozy, modern Indonesian restaurant with excellent service. The dishes are a twist of Indonesian cuisine that is customized to the Dutch's taste. It is not really authentic Indonesian cuisine, but it is quite good. But as an Indonesian myself, the taste for me personally isn't really my preference. They put vinegar in some of the dishes that the authentic Indonesian dishes didn't. But you can tell that they use premium ingredients and all are new and fresh.
We ordered the rijstaffle 'Agus' with small portions of 12 main dishes consist of some popular Indonesian dishes such as rendang, sate ayam, sate kambing, babi kecap, gado-gado etc. The carbs include one bowl of nasi putih/steamed rice and nasi goreng/fried rice.
The dessert is also included, which is pisang goreng/banana fritter. Pricewise is a bit pricey, around €41,50 per person for the rijstaffle only. Drinks are not included. But we booked through sociaal deal and it was €29,50 per person. They also have some appetizers/street food, such as Martabak, Tempe Mendoan/deep fried battered Tempe etc that costs €9 each.
We weren't really full as the portion isn't that much so we ordered Bola-bola Udang as an appetizer which is quite tasty. It's a deep fried shrimp ball wrapped with vermicelli. In general, a great experience, especially the excellent service provided...
