Café-Restaurant Aaltje — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I cant find anything negative about this place and the people that are working there. The atmosphere is very nice. its big inside but it feels cosy. The staff is amazing. They notice you when you come in, are very polite, are quick with serving the food and take time for a little chat eventhough it can be busy. We celebrated my boyfriends birthday there so the staff arranged some small fireworks and sang him the birthday-song. There were 3 other men who celebrated their birthday there as as well that evening and they did the same for all of them. THE FOOD: the menu is small (which I like). It has traditional Dutch food and there is a choice of fish/meat/vegetarian. All Fingerlicking-good. As a desert I would suggest the cake with the warm/melted chocolate in it or the truffel with a cup of coffee. We ate here a couple of times and we have never been dissapointed. When friends from abroad visit us, we always bring them there and so far they all loved the place and the food too. Thumbs up. Go...

I visited this place in July of 2019, unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected. The service was unacceptable, as we were waiting for a very long time our food, and the waiter didn't pay attention to us, but only to the local visitors. To them, were friendly, quick and polite. They brought us one wrong plate, we couldn't order anything else as we had to wait more than an hour, the waiter insisted that he had written the order correct, so one of us didn't eat. Also, we gave the salad back as it has something in that it wouldn't be there. We receive a very "cold" apology and that was it. I don't know why, but they treat...

De capaciteit van de keuken lijkt te klein, wij moesten even op de hoofdgerechten wachten. Er was niet te weinig bediening, die staan dan bij de bar of lopen over de vloer, wat op zich niet slecht is. Ook moet de keuken meer afgebakken brood klaar hebben staan. Door het side-dish-systeem besef je pas bij het serveren van het voorgerecht dat je er brood bij wilt, dat moet dan nog de oven in dus het komt pas op tafel als je het op hebt.

De bediening is op zich goed, ze kennen de kaart, spreken duidelijk en zijn ook attent. Hebben goed in de gaten dat je iets wilt of dat de glazen leeg zijn, het zou normaal moeten zijn maar helaas is het in veel restaurants met dit soort attentie droeviger.

Het eten is prima. Op de kaart staan de gerechten, als het er niet uitdrukkelijk bij staat, vermeld zonder brood, groente of aardappels. Dus die moet je er bij bestellen, één side-dish is overigens meestal voldoende voor 2 personen. De ingrediënten zijn van goede kwaliteit, toebereid volgens het motto uit hun logo: Hollandse Keuken.

De ambiance is top. Aaltje heeft best veel tafeltjes maar omdat de ruimte groot is, staan ze op gepaste afstand en zijn goed belicht. Je moet echt om je heen kijken om het idee te krijgen dat er nog meer mensen zitten. Ook de akoestiek werkt hieraan mee, aan tafel kan je iedereen goed verstaan maar je wordt absoluut niet gestoord door lawaai of luide gesprekken aan belendende tafeltjes.

Qua mobiliteit zijn er trouwens in de woonwijk achter het restaurant ook veel parkeerplaatsen, op korte loopafstand en gratis. Ga hiervoor niet over de brug het centrum in want daar is parkeren veel moeilijker (en duurder).

Rekening houdend met bovenstaande puntjes is Aaltje zeker een aanrader, wij komen hier normaal gesproken zeker nog...
