Nelis — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We came here on a day trip from Amsterdam because I had heard that Nelis’ Ijjsalon had “the best ice cream in the Netherlands”. It was definitely worth the trip! My fiancé asked for “the best thing” and received the ‘Nutcracker’. I asked if any of the special dishes were GF and the lovely server made a few suggestions. I ended up getting something with cherries (can’t remember what it was called). They were maraschino cherries which I don’t really like the texture of, but Joe loves them. So he ate the cherries and I really enjoyed the rest! The service was great, the recommendations were perfect and it was a lovely spot overall! Highly recommend it. You’ll have to go back many times though... there are so many yummy...

I randomly choose this ice cream stall in Weesp, then I realized this is a local fave. It was a sunny day, there was a queue as you can see. But the service was fast, so we did not have to wait too long. The server is so nice too!

They have a lot of varieties of ice cream, I was so confused but decided to order two scoops: a butterscotch and salted caramel ice cream on a cone. It is creamy, soft but does not melt easily. The taste is not too sweet. My husband ordered a coffee and vanilla ice cream, it tastes like a real coffee in an ice cream form. The vanilla has a perfect balance, it is not too sweet either.

Definitely we will come back to this local favorite ice...

Het ijs is ongelooflijk lekker en niet voor niets is deze ijssalon al heel vaak in de prijzen gevallen, kijk maar naar de indrukwekkende rij oorkondes aan de binnenkant van de pui. In 2020 nog 'Beste ijssalon door de Nederlandse Horeca'. Ik vind het daarom onbegrijpelijk dat een krant als Het Parool bij het lijstje '11 beste ijssalons van Amsterdam' nog steeds Nelis overslaat, hoewel Weesp al ruim een jaar onder Amsterdam valt. Wij wonen (nog eventjes) in Amsterdam Zuidoost en komen al járen geregeld naar Nelis voor een ijsje. Dit destijds op aanraden van onze dochter en schoonzoon die Nelis hadden 'ontdekt' en bij wie deze zaak gelijk topfavoriet was (zíjn record: 12 scoops in één keer!! -- ze hebben eergisteren nog het hele boek gedeeld om hun 20-jarig samenzijn te vieren.) Sinds een kleine twee jaar komen wij vaker in Weesp, in het kader van onze inburgering😊, aangezien wij er, in navolging van diezelfde dochter/schoonzoon, een nieuwbouwwoning hebben gekocht. Ik voorzie al dat als we er straks allemaal wonen, geregeld met z'n viertjes na het eten even op onze fiets stappen voor één, of twee, of … scheppen🤭 Nu al nemen wij geen dessert als we in Weesp uit eten gaan, maar gaan dan liever ter afsluiting hier...
