Gangnam chicken — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We had the garlic soy chicken and the boneless chicken with honey lemon glaze. We were disappointed by the food. The boneless chicken was a bit over fried and dry in some places. The wings were smallish. The sauces tasted good but they are too runny and collected in the bottom of the container rather than sticking to the food. The result was, that the first few pieces had little to no sauce until you ate enough to have access to the pool of sauce at the bottom. But as the sauce was very runny you had to be careful not to drip it all over the place. Far from ideal and not what we expected.

The sweet potato fries were good and we got plenty of mayonnaise and ketchup to go with them.

We would have appreciated those small refreshing clothes other places give you to clean your hands after eating. But Gangnam Chicken did not have any of those at the time of our visit.

The decor is nice and modern. Everything was clean and functional. It feels welcoming without being too much.

The atmosphere and the staffs were really nice and welcoming, however my major issue was the sauce itself. As a person who has lived in Asia their whole life, the sauce was obnoxiously sweet. The chicken didn’t have enough batter to really be called “Korean”, they most probably used liquid batter to fry it which leaves the chicken with hard bits when chewing. It’s juicy sure, but the sauce was too overpowering where I had to use extra napkins to soak it out. Generally speaking, it’s not bad, but with the price being I’d say it’s overrated and not worth the money. I have no issue with the quantity (they gave a generous amount of chicken bites), I just think there’s space for improvements in terms of the sauce compartment. I ordered soy garlic and the spicy one, it seemed like they used the same base sauce and just added the chili flavor to the other one, which is fine but I’d suggest to add in the option of mixed sauces without needing to order...

Never coming back here again. They messed up my order and after I called to make them aware, no apology no nothing. I had to suggest myself to come pick it up. When i got there I still had to wait 20 min. for them to make some as simple as fries. Afterwards still no apology, no compensation, no nothing. Their food already is a bit pricy and portion small, the food ain't bad, but this experience just totally turned me off from ever coming back here again. If you're looking for good Korean chicken I recommend Soju at Marie Heinekeplein. Good atmosphere, good food, nice pricing, but most of all good staff that know how to handle guests/customers.
