Started out ok but ended as a horrible experience. BE CAREFUL! When we got there, the waitress lady was really genuinely kind and greeted us with great hospitality and sat us down at our table. The waiter came and asked us if we wanted oysters to start with and we said yes. Which afterwards turned out to be a mistake. My oyster did not taste that good but I did not spit it out. For dinner we picked the 5 course menu and they brought out some usual sourdough bread with some whipped butter which they tried to market it as something really special. Afterwards there was an inconsistent service with some plates being explained and some not. It took them more than 3 hours to serve 3 of the 5 course tasting menu and at one point we decided to skip a course because it was taking way too long. Out of the 4 we tried I really liked the soup and the dumpling and the rest tasted ok. It was very clear that they were understaffed and the owner didn't seem to mind that too much. The place has an unnecessary aggressive "headchef" / owner as you can read about in some other reviews as well. He came to our table before desert and I could tell he didn't mind his personal hygiene either that much, looking at his hands and fingernails. We asked him if the desert contained any nuts. He said "no" and brought out two little macarons (coin size) and two bite size jelly deserts. My partner has a very severe nut allergy so she asked again if they were sure that the macarons did not contain any sort of nuts. (because they usually make them with almond flour, she said) He again said no, but we could see that he was tipsy and not quite sure of the severeness of the situation. We asked him to ask the desert chef for confirmation and he said "yes, it did". The owner then turned to us and said "I have nut allergy too but I eat the macaron and nothing happens so don't worry" and he had a very unprofessional smirk on his face which made us quite uncomfortable. We had been sitting on an uncomfortable chair for almost 4 hours now in a very noisy restaurant due to lacking of sound proofing on the ceiling and the food wasn't that great and now we had to deal with the drunk owner. At this point the waitress at the beginning understood our frustration and intervened and took the owner away from our table. We just wanted to get out of there after that. We paid the bill and headed towards the exit where the owner cut my girlfriend off and wanted to talk to her. She declined him politely and told him that we had to leave. All of a sudden the owner flipped out and raised his voice at her. Everybody stood shocked. Me, the waiters, the chefs in the background and the customers nearby were all shocked at his behaviour. I intervened this time and had to tell him to back off or else..... He then understood what he did and backed off but I left that place incredibly tense and angry. So angry that I googled the owner and found out that he is a rude aggressive coward of a man who clearly is not a gentleman and thinks it ok to show aggression towards woman. He ruined a great night for me and his nasty oyster worked its magic on me in the morning and I had a very upset stomach for 3 days. I would never go back to this place again even if they paid me to eat there and I would never ever recommend this...
Read moreOn arrival, the waitress seemed unsure where to seat us, despite the fact that we had a reservation. We were given a choice between a seat at the bar or a corridor table next to a staircase down to the staff only area. We chose the latter, but it turned out that this was right next to a cabinet where the staff were constantly arranging cutlery, glasses and menus next to us, behind us and above our heads. The staff were rushing up and down the stairs all evening and, at one point, a waiter had to apologise after hitting me on the head with a menu which he was putting back on the shelf. The atmosphere was therefore far from relaxing. The dishes were creative and looked nice, and a couple of them had a decent taste but, for the most part, we felt that the flavours didn't fit together. There is nothing on the website to suggest that their concept is 80% vegetables, 20% fish and meat, so we were a little surprised to be told this when we got there (the majority of dishes were a mixture of vegetables and herbs with odd, sometimes overpowering flavours). My husband had the wine arrangement and found none of them particularly to his liking; they did nothing to complement the dishes. Portion sizes were also on the very small side and felt like a selection of side dishes - we have had tasting menus before so know to expect smaller dishes, but on this occasion we left the restaurant hungry. We were told to expect 3 hours for the 6-course menu, but we entered at 19:30 and were not leaving until 23:50, which gives an indication of the waiting time between courses. Unfortunately, we...
Read moreLocation: With a rather unassuming appearance, the restaurant is located in the middle of the city of Arnhem, not far from the main train station.
Offer: The menu is offered as a 4- or 5-course meal (during the week also as a 3-course meal). According to information, the menu changes every few weeks. Unfortunately, the menu is not offered in any other language, except Dutch, either online or on site.
Price-performance ratio: Although the restaurant has held Michelin status for 3 years (in a row), a "mere" €55 for a 5-course menu is a reasonable price. Drinks are also included, with cocktail prices ranging from 12-15€.
Quality/Service The quality of the products met my expectations and exceeded my girlfriend's taste. Within 3 hours, the staff provided a special experience with a wonderful atmosphere, under dimmed lights and by candlelight. I would like to praise the service staff, Pablo, who rounded off the evening with his open manner, expertise and constant readiness.
Conclusion: For a special occasion it should be a special restaurant, which I found online. The Michelin-starred restaurant is not far from the centre of Arnhem, within walking distance of Arnhem Central Station. Without a large, confusing menu, a changing menu is offered. This is available for an affordable price. The evening was reasonable at around 160€ (including tip) for two people, considering the high quality. I would also like to praise the staff, who always took good care...
