LadyPapa — Restaurant in Bergen

As regular visitors to Bergen who know the city and its dining scene very well, Lady Papa was once one of our go-to spots. Unfortunately, those days are long gone.

We visited again today and have decided this was our last time. The service was, quite frankly, a disaster — arrogant, inattentive, and painfully slow. The staff seemed uninterested in providing even the basics of good hospitality.

What made the experience even worse was the audible dissatisfaction from neighboring tables — complaints about the food’s quality were clearly being voiced around us. This further confirmed our impression that something at Lady Papa has gone seriously downhill.

We informed our waiter that we’d like to settle the bill and leave. This was met with little more than a shrug. No apology, no concern — just complete indifference.

In short: never again. I can no longer recommend Lady Papa to anyone visiting Bergen. There are far better places in the city that still know how to treat guests with respect and serve quality food. This is...

Nice atmosphere. We called for a reservation and we're given a nice seating. Staff was very kind and helpful. We ordered the tuna bowl, which was nice. We also ordered the sushi uramaki zalm, but didn't see any tobiko on it, despite the menu description. The problem was in the wine pairing (we think?). Maybe the fault in our order, not the restaurants, but the white wine made the prawns taste excessively of plastic wrap. When paired with the red wine (primitivo, specifically) the sushi roll tasted much better. The pairing made such a difference in taste, so we thought to mention in case anyone accidentally makes the same order mistake we did. Lady Papa is zonder twijfel het beste restaurant van Bergen! Dit hippe en stijlvolle restaurant ligt midden in het centrum en biedt een prachtige ambiance met een eigentijds en zorgvuldig ingericht decor. Het interieur is zowel modern als gezellig, wat direct bij binnenkomst een aangename sfeer creëert.

Het personeel is uitermate vriendelijk en attent, en in het bijzonder Max, de zoon van de eigenaar, is een enorme aanwinst. Hij weet precies hoe hij gasten op hun gemak moet stellen en zorgt ervoor dat iedereen zich welkom voelt. Zijn gastvrijheid en professionaliteit voegen echt iets speciaals toe aan de ervaring bij Lady Papa.

Het concept van het restaurant draait om kleinere gerechten, waardoor je meerdere smaken kunt proeven in één bezoek. De gerechten zijn stuk voor stuk heerlijk en verfijnd, en er is veel aandacht besteed aan de presentatie. Een van de hoogtepunten is hun sushi, die van uitzonderlijke kwaliteit is. De wasabi wordt er op een unieke manier bereid, met een vleugje komkommer voor een frisse twist—iets wat je niet vaak ziet en echt een smaakvolle verrassing is.

Elk gerecht dat we hebben geproefd was een ware smaakexplosie, zorgvuldig samengesteld met verse ingrediënten en creatief gepresenteerd. De ultieme afsluiter van onze avond was de wagyu steak, die werkelijk op de tong smelt. Zo mals en smaakvol, het was de perfecte manier om onze culinaire ervaring af te ronden.
