Jasmin Garden — Restaurant in Bonaire

About 200 people with a Chinese background live on Bonaire. Many of the small markets are run by Chinese people, including the Zhung Kong market in Bonaire's Hato neighborhood. Bonaire has a number of Chinese restaurants as well. Of these, Jasmin Garden is the best of Bonaire's Chinese restaurants that I have been to.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and have lived in the Bay Area for most of my life. The San Francisco Bay Area has some of the best Chinese food in the world.

Chinese food is influenced by its environment. The Chinese food in the Bay Area is different from the Chinese food in Hong Kong, which is different from the Chinese food in Beijing. Bonaire has had it's own influence on Chinese food.

The food at Jasmin Garden is very good, but some of the dishes differ from the way they are prepared elsewhere. For example, I had Kung Pao Chicken, which was prepared as I have had it elsewhere, but without the Schezwan red peppers.

My wife had the Jasmin Garden Wonton Soup, which was excellent, with a rich broth and large pork wontons.

Went with no real expectations. I love Cantonese food and Jasmin Garden did not disappoint. Ordered an egg roll, chicken satay, and shrimp chips to start. Husband and I split appetizers and ordered mixed fried rice and Kung Pao Chicken for dinner. The mixed fried rice was great. Lots of meat! Kung Pao was ok. Excellent Chinese food in Kralendijk just south of downtown. I had the beef chow mein. Companion diners enjoyed sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, wonton soup, and Kung Pao chicken. Everyone was happy with their entrees. The entrees came with the choice of rice or chow mein, which was a generous portion. The side of chow mein could be taken home for another full meal.
