Umbrella Restaurant — Restaurant in Bonaire

I ate at this location a year ago and ordered a martini. I didn't get a martini. It was tasty, but not a martini. Later that same trip I went to Rum Runners where I had already met the charming and talented (and internationally award winning) bartender named Kelvin. Actually, I first met him at one of his other jobs at Spice Beach. Anyway, I watched him make a martini at Rum Runners and it was a martini! The real deal. I went back there on this trip and asked if Kelvin was still there. Nope. He had his own place. Umbrella! Just finished dinner there (started with a martini, of course). I expected great drinks, but the food is just as good! Fresh, beautifully seasoned, and every single person on that staff is as charming and delightful as Kelvin. This place is a hidden gem -- part of me wants it to stay that way so I can get a reservation, but Kelvin is such a wonderful human being that I really want his restaurant to be the most popular on the island. I'm torn, because I have serious loyalties to Capriccio across the street -- and love their owners too -- but there are plenty of customers to go around these days and I want Kelvin to achieve that level of acknowledgement because he deserves it. I was introduced to Umbrella by a friend living in Bonaire. This was my worst experience ever at a restaurant in Bonaire. We made reservations for a 2 seat near the sea. We were sent to our reserved seat, no one accompanied us. 5 minutes later a waiter came to tell us that we need to sit elsewhere because somebody else reserved that seat. 3.after explaining that we also reserved that seat we decided to go inside Nobody accompanied us again. After waiting for more than 10 minutes a waiter came and ask what we wanted to eat She told us to wait for just a minute she will go and order the meals and come back for our drinks order. We waited while I told my friend not to call anyone, just wait and see. Suddenly after some 10 minutes again a new waiter appeared asking what our order was. What order did we ask, she said meal and drinks. I told her, we are very sorry but just cancel our order because your service is disastrous. This lady said: ok than bye bye and have a pleasant night.

WE GAVE THEM EVERY CHANCE TO DO BETTER! I WOULD SAY UMBRELLA IS...

Pleasant Portside Dining

There have been at least two restaurants in the space where Umbrellas is located. The Umbrellas remodel is very attractive making this an enjoyable place to have dinner.

The restaurant is located right across from the Bonaire port. We were there when there were not ships in at the port, but I know from dining at nearby restaurants that it can be noisy when containers are being unloaded.

The good was excellent and the service was fast and friendly (Bonaire service is usually friendly).

There were three of us taking advantage of the Bonaire Culinare fixed price menu. Two of us had steaks, while the other person had salmon. We enjoyed the food and plan to return to sample other items...
