Even though the food was decent, I was not happy with how we were 'welcomed' and the size of the portions. When we walked in, around 2030ish with a group of 10 people, we were told we couldn't order certain things and that we had to be gone at precisely 22:00. As someone who works in hospitality, I get that it is annoying to get a bigger group later in the evening, it is still rude and unprofessional to tell guest 90 minutes before closing time that they have to be gone by 22:00 exactly as very unprofessional and rude. If I had done something like that, my boss would have made me experience a defenstration right there on the spot. Another issue was when two people of our group wanted to share a small rice table with two people. These guests made clear they wanted to share this. Nevertheless, when the small rice table arrived, we, especially those two, were not amused by the fact they were served 2 rice tables instead of one. The reason for this was: "It can only be ordered by 1 person each." We did pay for it but found it very unprofessional, again, that we were not informed by neither the menu nor the staff that the small rice table was meant for 1 person. The food itself tasted decent, but I've had better. I also was not happy with the price/quality. I got one small bowl of bami goreng and 4 pieces of saté, which was around 23 euros. (The minimum required to be able to order à la carte). It was also when ordering that I discovered that I could not order the first things I wanted to order because: "It takes too long to make." When we were done eating our main and only course, around ten minutes before we had to leave, we were asked if we wanted a dessert. This was strange, especially because they very clearly told us to be gone by 22:00. The interior itself is nice, and I like that the lobsters were fresh and that the tables had, I think, stone plates to keep the food warm. The restaurant did try to convey the Indonesian vibe, in which they succeeded.
Tldr: The food was decent, just not a lot and expensive. Staff was rude and unprofessional. ( not all of the staff, but I am not gonna single out people on the internet) Telling guests they have to be gone by 22:00 is unacceptable. It is annoying that people overstay the opening hours, but it is part of the hospitality business. We were not sufficiently informed that the small rice table was for 1 person and could not be shared. It was strange that we were asked if we wanted coffee/dessert 10 minutes before we were asked to be...
Read moreDisappointing! My husband and I were craving babi guling (Balinese roasted pig) for a very long time. I found it on their menu, and I was very happy. We drove there (1,5 hours) last weekend, ordered 2 "Babi Guling" and 1 sate special. The restaurant looks good until the food arrives. Basically, 2 pieces of crispy pork belly, without rice! Babi guling should be full meal (rice, sambal, urap, blood, sausage, etc)the waiter didn't say anything when we placed the order (is he expect someone to eat a piece of meat with nothing?). So we ordered plain rice for almost €6 per small bowl. It's not done yet. This fake Babi Guling was plain, almost unsalted. I tried the Sate, cold, tasteless. I was speechless. We ate the food as quickly as possible cos we were just too mad. What a disgrace. It's fine to sell pork belly, but never called it "Babi Guling" cos it is another thing! Shame on you, selling that with Bali's name and waiters dressed up on Balinese clothes! False...
Read moreWe spent our first year anniversary in Bali James. I was not expecting anything extraordinary, living in The Netherlands now:you can never expect great service or great food....that is a fact and my personal experience. However, we had a great time in Bali James, the food was very good, the restaurant is clean, restrooms are spotless and, the atmosphere cozy. One of the things that we loved the most was the great service.Food came very fast but,it was not so busy on that day.The servers helped us a lot with suggestions...their English is not perfect but, we are in Holland ,we can not expect servers translating every single thing on a menu word by word, however, they were very friendly and went out of their way to assist us. We ordered the big Indonesian tafel..a series of small samples of the traditional dishes,it was very tasty, not spicy but,it was a lot of food for 2 people.so..be aware...we are sure we are going back to eat...
