We really wanted to visit Purunchi but there were closed so we decided to try this 'fancy' place next door to them. On entering the establishment its clean and attractive, nice seating lay out, nice bar area and what not but the live singing for me was too much. I know its in the latino blood to have loud music and live singing but it just wasn't for me, it was a bit too loud and overbearing especially with an 18th month old baby. So we were greeted and seated and we got menus. We placed out orders and requested drinks and a water for the baby. They brough our drinks and an imported bottle of still spring water...On seeing this we requested a normal bottle water not this high end stuff but they claimed to have nothing else or can't serve tap water with ice. No problem, I assumed because they place looked high end the food and service would be on par with their prices. The wait for our meals however was extremely long, probably over 45mins, anyways while waiting and frustrated in the blistering heat that is Curacao, we noticed bird poop in the expansive spring water, we alerted the waitress who doesn't understand english to our issue:
They never even appologised for the incident.
It was a big scene with the rest of the members of staff with glaring stares as if we did something wrong, it was my baby, I would have flipped the place over if he had drank any of that poop water.
It took them well over 15mins to return with a bottle of water and again no apology or concern.
They didn't even ask if we were ok or needed anything during the long wait for our meals, I felt a tad bit left out...maybe because of the color of my skin or not being of spanish or dutch origin.
When the meals did come after about 45 mins, I was not impressed, The portion size was very small, the food was salty and very bland.
No one checked on us after receiving meals and I had to get the attention of staff members to pay the bill and leave.
We never received an itemized bill, so i did not know if they charged me for the second bottle of water nor did they even bothered to apologise about the bird poop incident at the time of bill payment, they was just concerned with taking my money.
Overall, the food was not worth the money, their service was poor and lack of concern for the incident was alarming. I will not reccommmend this...
Read moreLow key local “fishing shack” restaurant near Playa Zakito. We went specifically for whole fried fish which was recommended by friends who used to live on the island. We were lucky enough to get their last (for the day) large red snapper which was more than enough for 2 diners. Also ordered a side of fried polenta. They had several other fish available as steaks including wahoo and mahi. Food was good and on par or better than similar meals we’ve had at other local fish restaurants around the island. We dined on the early side so had the place to our selves. Dining and bar area was well kept and clean. Not the greatest water views but nice none the less. It’s located in a very quiet area which was a nice as compared to the hustle and traffic noise we’ve experienced when dining at pricier places in downtown Willemstad. Staff were very attentive and friendly. My wife speaks Spanish which was helpful in communicating with them. I can see where service might slow down when they get busy but likely no different than most other restaurants on the island. Bill totaled 118 ANG (about $66) which included 4 beers. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will...
Read moreWe came here to lunch since Purunchi was full. Sat down, very nice place service was good. But then came the food. We ordered catch of the day and bbq chicken. The chicken was quite good. But our orderthe fish was red snapper with funchi, and the flavors were not there. Not in the fish, not in the funchi, not in the creole sauce (sous krioyo). The salad was good and the plantain. Fish was small too, at purunchi if the red snapper is small that day, they add an extra one. Needles to say we were still hungry and we are not going back. Also it's more expensive than Puruchi. We paid Naf.40-something for the fish, meanwhile Purunchi is 30. Btw it's cash only.. maybe i should rate it 2 stars...
