Hu's Garden — Restaurant in Enschede

We had dinner at Hu‘s Garden - as I have symptomatic celiac disease I have to eat strictly gluten-free. I had no symptoms and the kitchen is very well informed - so I can recommend for celiacs.

You get two menus when you arrive. A take away menu where allergens are highlighted and a menu for on-site dining where no allergens are highlighted, which was a little bit complicated because the dishes didn't quite match.

What's really great is that there is a huge selection of gluten-free options - from vegetarian dishes to chicken, pork or beef.

We shared two gluten-free dishes that were delicious. Very deliciously seasoned and even though the sauces looked the same, they tasted completely different. I have traveled a lot through Asia and the dishes were so authentic that I felt like I was going back there again while eating. Very highly recommended!

They weren't sure if the shrimp chips were gluten-free, so I just didn't eat them. I decided on a main course that wasn't on the take away menu and was immediately offered to ask the chef if it was really gluten-free. the employees were very, very friendly!

My husband and I had a bad experience dining here today. In the beginning, it was good, until we had to wait for more than 30 minutes for extra rice. We asked a staff member for extra rice, she wrote it down and walked away. 20 minutes later, we asked the man (we think he's the manager there), he asked us did we finish our meal? We again asked for the extra rice, and he told us to wait a moment, then also no response after 15 minutes more. We had to wait too long and our appetite was gone. My husband must walk to the staff and ask once again for the extra rice. The waitress said she forgot. Finally we had it after 38 minutes, precisely. This is such a bad experience that we will not come back to this restaurant. At the start, the waitress already forgot my request of a cup of ice cubes. And then, staff forgot more. The staff offered us a free drink but we did not accept and just wanna go home. We used to have dinner at Hu's garden many times, even recommended to our friends. But today we really were...

Great place, staff are friendly and efficient (and multilingual), food is tasty and with good variety with menu featuring traditional Indonesian dishes as well as more fusiony items. The Indonesian Rice Smorgasboard is excellent value and provides a good sampling of what that style of cuisine has to offer. Dinner for two with the "Rice Table", two chardonnays, a mineral water, two large Grolsch on draught and two Irish coffees was only €65.
